On August 5, 1940, an order was given to develop an 8-wheeled armored car similar to the SdKfz 231 but with the armored body as the chassis. SdKfz 234 Puma, or the 234/2, was to have only powerful turret armed with a 50 mm KwK 39/1 L/60 tank gun mounted in the distinctive pig's head (saukopf) mantlet. Turrets were originally designed for the Leopard tank. This was the same gun that was used in the later marks of the Panzer III. 234 entered into production in 1943 and was available and operational in numbers 1944. Pumas were organized into Panzerspähwagen companies. They saw action on the Eastern and Western fronts along with the Panzer and Panzergrenadier divisions. It was one of the best armored cars available, and, with its cannon, powerful for an armored car, it was capable of countering some light tanks as well as the infantry. The Puma eight-wheeled vehicle was considerably ahead of their times, and as the Allies became aware of their presence they began to step up their own research and design into similar eight-wheeled vehicles, which would become the mainstay of armored car development in the post-war years. Maybach Exelero: Schwarz, breit... und unheimlich schnell www.auto-news.de Mit dem Exelero haben Maybach und der Reifenhersteller Fulda gemeinsam ein Luxus-Coupé auf wahrhaft große Räder gestellt: Stolze 23 Zoll messen die Felgen und geben dem Begriff „wagenradgroß" wieder eine Bedeutung. Besohlt sind die Alus mit 315er-Reifen und geben damit zum Ausdruck, was der Exelero sein soll: Ein Testwagen für Hochgeschwindigkeits-Pneus und zugleich Imageträger für die Exelero-Reifen von Fulda. Leider nur ein Einzelstück Für ein Versuchsfahrzeug ist der sehr elegante Fulda-Maybach ein ziemlich heißes Mobil: Der Kühlergrill erinnert an ein Zellenfenster, an dem, wenn der Motor angelassen wurde, 700 PS-Monster fauchend rütteln, um herausgelassen zu werden. Nahezu schlank ist die Linie nach hinten, eine sanfte Form, die an einen Bentley GT erinnert. Schmale Sidepipes entsorgen fauchend das Abgas aus zwölf Zylindern. Das Hinterteil weckt mit seiner Formensprache Erinnerungen an Mobile der 40-er-Jahre. Der Exelero erzeugt massiv den Wunsch, sich reinzusetzen, Gas zu geben und wusch.... fort zu sein. Das rassige High-Performance-Car hat nur einen Nachteil: Es ist ein Einzelstück und wird es auch bleiben. Seine einzigartige Faszination erleben Sie in unserem Video.
