9x9x9 Rubik's Cube video raw footage ( PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION ) Genuine V-Cubes and over 100 other puzzles are available in my Puzzle Shop here: http://tonyfisherpuzzles.net/puzzleshop.html After 26 years of serious puzzle making I figured it would be fun and a change to instigate this hoax. I never expected anyone to believe it and I was always going to own up pretty quickly afterwards. Some people got the joke but many didn't and once again I apologise to those who believed I had really created this puzzle. ALL my other puzzles are genuine and I will NEVER repeat this. The 'puzzle' itself was created partly for the hoax but also because I wanted to own a 9x9x9 mock-up until I could get my hands on the real thing. (this was long before the KOs) It was necessary to make three separate '9x9x9's for the hoax. Sometime ago I picked up 200 poor quality Mini (keychain) Rubik's Cubes on ebay. These were a perfect size for my fake 9x9x9s. The first step was to fix three of these cubes together in a stack forming a 3x3x9 block. I did this in such a way that it was possible to rotate all nine horizontal rows though nothing else. I then disassembled several more of the Mini Cubes and glued them into solid 1x3x3 blocks. I then glued eight of these together in a square around each one of the 3x3x9's rows to make each of the nine 1x9x9 layers required. This makes a 9x9x9 looking puzzle which has nine layers of rotation in one dimension but none in the others. This could be viewed as a 1x1x9 puzzle with 65,536 combinations though trivial to solve. The way I put stickers on the cubes was extremely important to carry off the hoax. The aim was to use the three cubes to give the impression in the video that just one had gone from totally solved to a six sided chequered pattern. To achieve this each was stickered differently and by swapping the puzzles during the video I could give the impression that there was just one fully functional puzzle. In this video you can see how I carefully swapped puzzles. When this swap was edited out and camera angles changed it looks like only one puzzle was used. If you view the original video you will see what I mean. Since I made the hoax- In December 2009 myself and some friends finished a genuine fully functional 11x11x11. I have heard talk of 13x13x13s and there has now been a fully functional 17x17x17 made- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Q-370MhcDw . 7x7x7 Stop Motion Assembly!! Here's a bigger and better version of my previous 6x6 stopmotion assembly video. Its made of 218 pieces, 1066 separate frames that I had to shoot individually, and took me 5 weekends to complete, compared to the consecutive 4 hours the 6x6 animation took. This was mainly because it was shot during a busy school term instead of the holidays. Also you'll notice that the animation is much smoother-- the pieces actually glide into place as if they were nasty little Block Monsters taking over the world, and you can see the internal mechanism much more clearly. Part of the work while making this video was also the post-production where I had to edit away the cubies and pencils and Electroencephalographs that got accidentally caught in the background and do a bit of colour correction, which I didn't bother to do the other time. NOTE: Everything else is completely genuine, and if you see something that seems impossible its probably held there by blu-tack or a pair of Hidden Chopsticks. Some people have complained about the alleged presence of Nazi influence in the video at about 1:10, but I must insist again that it is nothing of the sort; simply being a stylized logo of my initials "Yh" which bears a remarkable similarity to the symbol. Thanks again to Nick ( http://www.youtube.com/user/rachmaninovian92 ) for lending me his V-cube 7 for all those weeks (sorry) to film and lubricate. Also appearing in the video is Booey the blue octopus, whom I forgot to mention in the credits. P.S. You are NOT recommended to use this as a guide for assembling a 7x7 v-cube. Many of the sequences shown are plain impossible and require partially dismantling the cube for every step. Plus, the nasty little Block Monsters might attack and Gobble you up. You never know.
