Parlando al World Business Forum, l'ex numero uno della Banca Centrale americana ha affermato che i prezzi delle case scenderanno e il calo finira' per produrre una riduzione nelle spese dei consumatori. "Quando i prezzi delle case si abbassano - ha spiegato - si comincia a osservare una pressione sui consumi". Greenspan ha aggiunto che l'aumento dei prezzi in Borsa, che hanno portato i maggiori indici a segnare i record in settimana, potrebbe compensare la perdita di valore del patrimonio immobiliare. L'ex presidente della Fed ha anche dichiarato che i tassi di crescita dell'economia statunitense hanno subito un rallentamento, ma il rischio di recessione e' inferiore al 50%.
