This simple bamboo instrument, in the hands of Rupak Kulkarni, a student of maestro Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, produces one of the most haunting and captivating sounds in Indian classical music. Darbar Festival 2009 Described by one artist as the G20 summit of Indian music and by World Music magazine Songlines as surely Britains best festival of south Asian music, the Darbar Festival is says arts journalist, Jameela Siddiqui a place where everyone expects and gets the highest quality performances of Indian classical music. Indian classical music is arguably one of the most complex and complete systems of music ever developed. What began as Vedic chants several thousand years ago developed into a sophisticated musical system by the 3rd century. The music is based on a single melody line, which is played over a fixed drone and the performance is based melodically on particular ragas and rhythmically on talas. The music has been passed down orally. Improvisation predominates and written notation, when used, is skeletal. This series from the Darbar Festival, presented by Lopa Kothari, features ten outstanding performances from artists from the two main strands of Indian classical music, the North Indian Hindustani and South Indian Carnatic traditions. El propio Joseph Pilates (1880-1967), su autor, lo definió como: "La ciencia y arte del desarrollo coordinado de la mente, el cuerpo y el espíritu a través de movimientos naturales bajo el estricto control de la voluntad," y le dió el nombre de Contrología. El método Pilates es un método que propone otra forma de realizar el trabajo muscular de fuerza-resistencia, la flexibilidad muscular y articular y el control postural; es un método muy intenso y efectivo, con un entorno distinto al acostumbrado: en lugar de realizarse acompañado por una música movida y generalmente alta, mientras el instructor va gritando las instrucciones, se utiliza un ambiente de trabajo totalmente diferente, un ambiente relajado que permite la comunicación directa entre el alumno y el instructor, todo ello con una música suave y grata al oído y al espíritu. En definitiva, busca un trabajo integral de la mente, del cuerpo y del espíritu; es una educación corporal muy completa en la que se trabaja el cuerpo como un todo, desde la musculatura superior hasta la inferior, y en la que intervienen por igual y en armonía la mente y el cuerpo. Se ha definido al método Pilates como el "Yoga Occidental". Sus principios son: 1. Control físico (para evitar lesiones). 2. Precisión (derivada del control). 3. Flexibilidad (ningún movimiento debe ser rígido). 4. Fluidez (ni muy rápido ni muy lento). 5. Respiración (coordinada con los ejercicios). 6.
