Tony Gatlif's "Swing" Yavaran Nasseme (Chant de la paix ) By linniekole Tony Gatlif's "Swing" takes place in Strasbourg near a Manouche community. A 10-year-old French boy, Max, visits his grandmother and winds up with an old guitar. He is longing to learn to play jazz guitar Manouche style. His teacher is played by Tchavolo Schmitt, the gypsy guitar virtuoso. This clip shows a performance of a women's chorus along with the Manouche jazz players. They are being taught how to pronounce the Romani and Arabic wordsl. There also seems to be a bit of Yiddish in the song as well. Anyway, it is certainly a multicultural performance. In addition to the voices, violin and guitars, there are some Middle Eastern instruments as well, such as the oud, daff, and saz.
