Initially an offshoot of California's surf scene, this extreme sport has taken America by storm. Before you can execute sweet tricks, you need to start with the basics. To complete this How-To you will need: Pads, a helmet, and proper shoes A skateboard A flat surface Warning: Always wear protective clothing, including a helmet, wrist guards, elbow pads, kneepads, and appropriate footwear. Skateboarding is not recommended for children under the age of 6, and children between the ages of 6 and 10 should only be allowed to ride with adult supervision. Step 1: Stand on your board Get comfortable standing on your skateboard. Try standing on it in the grass. Move your feet in different positions on the board; balance on the front wheels and the back wheels. Do you prefer standing directly on the trucks -- the skateboard's axle -- or in between? Step 2: Choose your stance Choose the regular or the goofy stance. If you skate with the left foot in front and push off and kick with the right, you're using the regular stance. If you prefer skating with your right foot in front, it's goofy. Since most people are right-handed, most skaters prefer the regular stance, which uses the dominant right foot to kick. Tip: Go to a staircase and begin to walk up; which foot did you use to start the ascent? That's probably your back foot. Step 3: Push off and kick Take your board to a flat expanse of concrete, like a parking lot. Position your feet comfortably on the board. Then use your back foot to push off and propel the board forward. Take time to practice at varying speeds. Step 4: Learn to stop There are several ways to stop your roll. The easiest is footbreaking. Take your back foot and drag it on the ground. Another technique is the heel drag. Place the heel of your back foot close to the back edge of the board. Lean back so that the front of your board eases into the air, basically a wheelie. Your heel will drag on the ground, slowing you down to an eventual stop. Step 5: Turn or carve To turn or carve, put weight on your heels while rolling and you'll turn in that direction. The harder you press your heels, the sharper the turn. It helps to lean your upper body in the direction you want to turn. Step 6: Learn to kickturn After you've practiced, try a skating essential, the kickturn. Balance on your rear wheels, push down, and spin your board around to execute a kickturn. This takes patience and practice, but soon you'll be hitting all the gnarly moves! No keys and no help in sight? Here's how to get your car moving again. To complete this How-To you will need: Proof of ownership of the vehicle A hammer A flat-head screwdriver A Phillips-head screwdriver Your car's manual Insulated gloves Wire cutters and strippers Warning: Hot-wiring a car is dangerous and is likely to damage your vehicle. Never hot-wire anyone's car but yours and be prepared to show your proof of ownership. Step 1: Try a screwdriver Pound a flat-head screwdriver into the ignition and turn it like a key. This will ruin the ignition cylinder, but it's effective on many cars manufactured before the mid '90s. Step 2: Remove the ignition cover If the car doesn't start, pull the screwdriver out of the ignition and remove the screws in the panels on the top and bottom of the steering column. Next, use the flat-head screwdriver to pry off the plastic panels and expose the ignition cylinder and the wires running to it. Be gentle to minimize damage to the steering column. Step 3: Identify the battery and starter wires Identify the battery and starter wires. Generally the two red wires handle the car's power, and the one or two brown wires connect to the starter. Consult your car's manual to learn its specific wire color code. Step 4: Connect the power wires Put on the gloves, and use the cutters to cut the power wires from the cylinder. Then, strip the ends and connect them by twisting them together to provide power to the lights, radio, and other electrical systems. Step 5: Connect the starter wires Cut the starter wires from the cylinder and strip the ends. Be extremely careful not to touch the exposed ends as they carry a powerful live current and will shock you. Touch them together, and as soon as the car has started, pull them apart and tape the ends to avoid getting shocked while driving. Tip: If the car has only has one starter wire, touch it to the exposed part of the connected power wires to start the car. Step 6: Deal with additional security Deal with additional security. In some cars the steering-wheel lock's bolt can be pried open by jamming a screwdriver between the top of the steering column and the steering wheel. Tip: Newer cars have complex wheel locks and electronic key systems that are nearly impossible to circumvent without tools and in-depth knowledge. Step 7: Turn the car off Turn the car off by separating the power wires from each other. Now it's time to find that extra set of keys and head to the repair shop, pronto. The normal way of shutting it down was taking too long, so I pushed the manual shut off button on the tower and it turned off instantly. From this point on, it has been unable to fully start up the blue screen of death always appears when windows is loading. The Stop error reads: A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME If this is the first time youve seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any Windows updates you might need. If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode. No keys and no help in sight? Here's how to get your car moving again. To complete this How-To you will need: Proof of ownership of the vehicle A hammer A flat-head screwdriver A Phillips-head screwdriver Your car's manual Insulated gloves Wire cutters and strippers Warning: Hot-wiring a car is dangerous and is likely to damage your vehicle. Never hot-wire anyone's car but yours and be prepared to show your proof of ownership. Step 1: Try a screwdriver Pound a flat-head screwdriver into the ignition and turn it like a key. This will ruin the ignition cylinder, but it's effective on many cars manufactured before the mid '90s. Step 2: Remove the ignition cover If the car doesn't start, pull the screwdriver out of the ignition and remove the screws in the panels on the top and bottom of the steering column. Next, use the flat-head screwdriver to pry off the plastic panels and expose the ignition cylinder and the wires running to it. Be gentle to minimize damage to the steering column. Step 3: Identify the battery and starter wires Identify the battery and starter wires. Generally the two red wires handle the car's power, and the one or two brown wires connect to the starter. Consult your car's manual to learn its specific wire color code. Step 4: Connect the power wires Put on the gloves, and use the cutters to cut the power wires from the cylinder. Then, strip the ends and connect them by twisting them together to provide power to the lights, radio, and other electrical systems. Step 5: Connect the starter wires Cut the starter wires from the cylinder and strip the ends. Be extremely careful not to touch the exposed ends as they carry a powerful live current and will shock you. Touch them together, and as soon as the car has started, pull them apart and tape the ends to avoid getting shocked while driving. Tip: If the car has only has one starter wire, touch it to the exposed part of the connected power wires to start the car. Step 6: Deal with additional security Deal with additional security. In some cars the steering-wheel lock's bolt can be pried open by jamming a screwdriver between the top of the steering column and the steering wheel. Tip: Newer cars have complex wheel locks and electronic key systems that are nearly impossible to circumvent without tools and in-depth knowledge. Step 7: Turn the car off Turn the car off by separating the power wires from each other. Now it's time to find that extra set of keys and head to the repair shop, pronto. The normal way of shutting it down was taking too long, so I pushed the manual shut off button on the tower and it turned off instantly. From this point on, it has been unable to fully start up the blue screen of death always appears when windows is loading. The Stop error reads: A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME If this is the first time youve seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any Windows updates you might need. If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.
