The one-hour bloodless battle, known as the Tomatina, left the town awash in a sea of tomato pulp. The town council brought in some 100 tonnes of ripe tomatoes on trucks for the estimated 40,000 tourists who descended on the town of just 9,000 inhabitants for the annual festival, which has taken place for more than 60 years. Many of the participants were shirtless while others wore old clothes, hard hats or goggles. Afterwards, workers hosed down the walls and streets to remove the tomato pulp. Spanish media said the tomatoes cost the town council around 28,000 euros (35,000 dollars), about one third of the overall budget of 70,000 euros for the festival, most of which goes to pay for security, cleaning services, mobile toilets and civil protection. More than 100 police and 120 civil protection volunteers were on hand in case of incidents. The "Tomatina" is held each year in Bunol, located in a fertile region some 40 kilometres (25 miles) north of the coastal city of Valencia, Spain's third-largest city, on the last Wednesday in August. The origins of the event are unclear although it is thought to have its roots in a food fight between childhood friends in the mid-1940s in the city. An interesting note.. we reskinned the kit right before we started recording, so the skins naturally went out of tune a little, and we had to keep an eye (ear?) on them. The snare, on the other hand, completely went out of tune towards the end of No More Sorrow (which was recorded right before this) and we only noticed it at the end of the recording of Vox Populi. This was a huge problem since I was too tired to try and "replicate" my first REAL performance, but since I've mixed MUCHHH worse recorded audio, I was brave enough to give it a go :) That's why this snare tone is completely different than the rest of the series, much less tone and resonance and MUCH more attack. Designed by TNP friend Ed Schempp, the Navaja is a blend of modern tactical and Spanish Navaja influences and it is a homerun. The CPM S30V steel blade is almost four inches long and is of an intriguing, unusual shape...hearkening back to its namesake. It is flat ground from the spine and arrives wicked sharp. This high quality US-produced steel, known for its homegenity, edge holding, and toughness is a good choice. This blade features outstanding and useful jimping on both top and bottom which, along with wide finger choils, allows for serious and versatile gripping possibilities. This makes the Navaja a serious contender for tactical use. The blade shape, while different, has excellent belly and a seemingly strong tip. It launches out of the handle with an incredible thwack. Weight is not super light at 5.2 ounces, probably attributable to the stainless steel bolsters. It features a strong Walker liner lock and the 420 SS liners are thankfully skeletonized (otherwise it'd be 6 oz). Lockup is solid and sure. The carbon fiber handle scales are excellent and much improved over past iterations of Spyderco CF (discussed, shown). They do provide some traction. Clip is standard Spyerco and features an attractive black chrome finish. It provides 4-corner positionability which rocks. In the pocket the Navaja fides at a medium depth and is secure. You will find a lanyard hole in the handle back. Fit and finish throughout this Spydderco ethnic blade is top notch; expect to see perfect blade centering and flawless overall quality levels. Value is good considering the limited nature of the blade probably taking it into Ed Schempp "Barong" territory in future years. I find that the covers people respond to most are the most sincere and passionate ones, regardless of any other external factors. I absolutely LOVE this song, and apart from the very "new-age" message, This Is War is a melodically monstrous album. Increeeedibly fun and expressive songs to play along to. An interesting note.. we reskinned the kit right before we started recording, so the skins naturally went out of tune a little, and we had to keep an eye (ear?) on them. The snare, on the other hand, completely went out of tune towards the end of No More Sorrow (which was recorded right before this) and we only noticed it at the end of the recording of Vox Populi. This was a huge problem since I was too tired to try and "replicate" my first REAL performance, but since I've mixed MUCHHH worse recorded audio, I was brave enough to give it a go :) That's why this snare tone is completely different than the rest of the series, much less tone and resonance and MUCH more attack. [View \| Download]	Spyderco Navaja: "Now Hear This" by Nutnfancy If you're going to judge a folding knife by the sounds it makes then move the Spyderco Navaja to the top of the class. With its supercool ratcheting "carraca" mechanism, the Navaja will turn heads of knife enthusiasts if they're within earshot. Designed by TNP friend Ed Schempp, the Navaja is a blend of modern tactical and Spanish Navaja influences and it is a homerun. The CPM S30V steel blade is almost four inches long and is of an intriguing, unusual shape...hearkening back to its namesake. It is flat ground from the spine and arrives wicked sharp. This high quality US-produced steel, known for its homegenity, edge holding, and toughness is a good choice. This blade features outstanding and useful jimping on both top and bottom which, along with wide finger choils, allows for serious and versatile gripping possibilities. This makes the Navaja a serious contender for tactical use. The blade shape, while different, has excellent belly and a seemingly strong tip. It launches out of the handle with an incredible thwack. Weight is not super light at 5.2 ounces, probably attributable to the stainless steel bolsters. It features a strong Walker liner lock and the 420 SS liners are thankfully skeletonized (otherwise it'd be 6 oz). Lockup is solid and sure. The carbon fiber handle scales are excellent and much improved over past iterations of Spyderco CF (discussed, shown). They do provide some traction. Clip is standard Spyerco and features an attractive black chrome finish. It provides 4-corner positionability which rocks. In the pocket the Navaja fides at a medium depth and is secure. You will find a lanyard hole in the handle back. Fit and finish throughout this Spydderco ethnic blade is top notch; expect to see perfect blade centering and flawless overall quality levels. Value is good considering the limited nature of the blade probably taking it into Ed Schempp "Barong" territory in future years.
