Japanese forces landed at Kota Bahru North Malaya and travelled south towards the Malayan Penisular and Singapore Island,while the people of Singapore suffered daily air raids by Japanese aircraft. On the31st of January 1942 the Japanese troups crossed the Straits of Jahor into Singapore, the Allied defences were broken within hours, a few days later,on the day of the Chinese New Year over 100,000 allied troups became Prisoners of War. The Japanese Occupation lasted for some three and a half years during which the people suffered at the hand of the "Kempeitai" or Japanese military police, numerous atrocities took place the darkest being the "Sook Ching Massacre" where the Japanese took the lives of nearly 50,000 Chinese civilians...........
