Beretta M9/Model 92 pistol: Gargantuan 9mm, Part 2 By nutnfancy PART 2 of 3: Nutnfancys look at an in-service Beretta M9 service pistol. The M9 was one of the designs that helped change the world looks at semi-automatic pistols due to its reliability and demonstrated durability. It has amassed a generally excellent track record in service with the military but does have some drawbacks. I contend its overly large for the 9mm loading even when compared against other full size pistols, its entirely too heavy, has more complexity, and can be less reliable than the Glock and Sig designs (from my OWN experience which is irrefutablesaw it with my own eyesyours may vary). However it has a decent traditional SA/DA trigger, good accuracy, tough weather-resistant Bruniton finish, and good firepower. The open slide was a modification designed to help reliability but its overrated in purpose and other closed-slide designs have proven extremely reliable in equally dirty conditions. Nowadays the Beretta is a dated design that has been surpassed by lots of other handguns in the categories listed. SIG 552 Commando Subcarbine/SBR with GEMTECH Silencer By defensereview This video clip features DefenseReview.com owner/editor-in-chief David Crane loading and firing the SIGARMS SIG 552 Commando Subcarbine/SBR (Short Barreled Rifle) with a GEMTECH silencer/sound suppressor attached in both the semi-auto and full-auto firing modes at SWAT Round-Up 2002 in November 2002. David Crane was one of the first civilians in the country to test-fire this weapon/silencer combo. He subsequently wrote about it, here: http://www.defensereview.com/modules.... The 552 is great gun, perhaps even my favorite 5.56 SBR. However, by the time I got to test-fire it, I guess I was a little flinchy from having fired a bunch of full-auto guns already. That's why you can see the muzzle dip down a little bit when I attempt to take the first shot with the 552. I say 'attempt' because I didn't realize they'd handed me the weapon with it on safe [safety on]. They were of course correct in handing it to me that way. Anyway, that's why it doesn't fire when I first pull the trigger. A classic mistake. So, I swept the safety off and went to work. The suppressor [GEMTECH sound suppressor] worked really well.
