The wikipedia page is a good place to begin: http://wikipedia.org/wiki/Theremin About the helmet: It was made of papier-mâché with a custom LED visor built in ... post production! using Softimage XSI and Adobe After Effects! Yes, it was a visual effect! 3D modeling, manual rotoscoping, and motion tracking/motion stabilization tricks were employed to pull this off. A LED array with animated text was projected on to a manually rotoscoped 3D visor, that was subsequently composited with the original footage using motion trackers in After Effects. The helmet itself took three days to make. I used 7 layers of card stock/normal stock paper strips in a special heavy mix paste recipe. The shape was built around a custom mold of shipping foam and gaffers tape. It was finished off with gunmetal grey paint. The visor was made of plastic cut from a microwave oven splash cover I found at Target for 5 dollars, laminated on both sides with Limo dark auto window tinting. I could see out, but the translucent plastic from the microwave splash cover along with the heavy tinting made it a little bit difficult. On the inside, the helmet was padded with custom cut felt blocks to fit my head size perfectly. The total weight was around 0.5 Kg (about 1 pound). This video was made for love. Please share it. 'UpsideDown Goldfish' from 'Rory' was made into a music video by Bryan Joseph O'Sullivan (I find O'Sullivans are good workers and generally do what they're told) and was entered in the 2007 Fresh Film Festival where it won Best Animation. The theremin is an electronic musical instrument that is played completely without physical contact. It was invented in 1919 by a Russian physicist named Lev Sergeyevich Termen. The wikipedia page is a good place to begin: http://wikipedia.org/wiki/Theremin About the helmet: It was made of papier-mâché with a custom LED visor built in ... post production! using Softimage XSI and Adobe After Effects! Yes, it was a visual effect! 3D modeling, manual rotoscoping, and motion tracking/motion stabilization tricks were employed to pull this off. A LED array with animated text was projected on to a manually rotoscoped 3D visor, that was subsequently composited with the original footage using motion trackers in After Effects. The helmet itself took three days to make. I used 7 layers of card stock/normal stock paper strips in a special heavy mix paste recipe. The shape was built around a custom mold of shipping foam and gaffers tape. It was finished off with gunmetal grey paint. The visor was made of plastic cut from a microwave oven splash cover I found at Target for 5 dollars, laminated on both sides with Limo dark auto window tinting. I could see out, but the translucent plastic from the microwave splash cover along with the heavy tinting made it a little bit difficult. On the inside, the helmet was padded with custom cut felt blocks to fit my head size perfectly. The total weight was around 0.5 Kg (about 1 pound). This video was made for love. Please share it. RORY MCDONNELL Started playing guitar when I was 12. Wrote my first song 'My Face' a year later. Was a finalist in the 2005 Jacobs Songwriting Contest. I then decided to record my first E.P. 'Rory' during the summer of the same year in my friend Mark O'Sullivan's house on his Mac. Released it in August of 2005. A year of nothingness then during the winter of 2006 to summer 2007 I recorded the aptly named 'It Fell Off' which hasn't been offically released yet. 'UpsideDown Goldfish' from 'Rory' was made into a music video by Bryan Joseph O'Sullivan (I find O'Sullivans are good workers and generally do what they're told) and was entered in the 2007 Fresh Film Festival where it won Best Animation. I know... Pretty cool... At the moment I play my own stuff, I'm also in a Country/Rock Band with Gloria Maria.
