Did John the Baptist baptize Jesus? The gospels disagree about whether John the Baptist baptized Jesus. The gospel of John doesn't even mention Jesus being baptized at all. Part 3 -- DID the disciples die for a lie? This is part three of a series examining an argument many Christians regard as among the most convincing proofs that Jesus was raised from the dead, namely, that Jesus' disciples willingly died as martyrs for preaching that Jesus had been raised from the dead. No one, it is claimed, would willingly die for a lie. In this series, the argument is examined and three refutations of it are offered. The Bible's Buried Secrets The PBS series "NOVA" has a very interesting episode on the degree to which the archaeological record does and does not confirm the historicity of the Bible. Link: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/bible/ For those outside the United States, one of my viewers indicates that the following link can be used to access the program. (I didn't know PBS doesn't make its programming available outside the United States. That's ridiculous.): http://www.download.com/Hotspot-Shield/3000-2092_4-10594721.html If you have any questions about this, contact user Riversonthemoon (I don't know anything about it). Thanks. Secret Knowledge of Ancient vedas in Hindusim The Vedas (Sanskrit वेद véda, "knowledge") are a large body of texts originating in Ancient India. Composed in Vedic Sanskrit, the texts constitute the oldest layer of Sanskrit literature and the oldest scriptures of Hinduism The class of "Vedic texts" is aggregated around the four canonical Saṃhitās or Vedas proper (turīya), of which three (traya) are related to the performance of yajna (sacrifice) in historical (Iron Age) Vedic religion: the Rigveda, containing hymns to be recited by the hotṛ or chief priest; the Yajurveda, containing formulas to be recited by the adhvaryu or officiating priest; the Samaveda, containing formulas to be chanted by the udgātṛ. The fourth is the Atharvaveda, a collection of spells and incantations, stories, predictions, apotropaic charms and some speculative hymns The various Indian philosophies and sects have taken differing positions on the Vedas. Schools of Indian philosophy which cite the Vedas as their scriptural authority are classified as "orthodox" (āstika). Other traditions, notably Buddhism and Jainism, which did not regard the Vedas as authorities are referred to by traditional Hindu texts as "heterodox" or "non-orthodox" (nāstika) schools.
