[View \| Download]	UNIVERSO VIAGGIO NELLE GALASSIE 1° parte di 5 Le galassie sono degli enormi contenitori di stelle, il cui diametro può essere di centinaia di migliaia di anni luce, che come delle vere e proprie isole nell'universo si trovano situate nello spazio a distanze enormi (miliardi di a.l.) le une dalle altre. A separarle solo immense quantità di pulviscolo intergalattico e materiale interstellare estremamente rarefatto. Data la grandissima distanza che ci separa dalle più vicine, esse sono state scoperte solo negli ultimi tre secoli, anche se la certezza della loro esistenza la si è avuta solo nel 1924, grazie ad E. Hubble, che misurando la distanza di alcune cefeidi individuate nella galassia di Andromeda, ebbe la prova di come quest'ultima fosse situata nello spazio esterno ben al di là della Via Lattea. Prima di allora, infatti, quelle poche galassie che erano state scoperte venivano scambiate per stelle o nebulose, vista la mancanza di strumenti adeguati all'osservazione di oggetti così lontani. -Protogalassie- La nascita delle galassie è ancora avvolta nel mistero, ma sembra che esse traggano la loro origine per l'aggregazione della materia primordiale che, centinaia di milioni di anni dopo il Big-Bang, iniziò ad addensarsi in grandi nubi, le quali, a causa delle immense forze gravitazionali risultanti, cominciarono a contrarsi ed a ruotare attorno a se stesse dando vita alle "protogalassie". E' sicuramente in questo frangente, che le diverse velocità di rotazione condizionarono quelle che poi sarebbero risultate le forme finali di ciascuna delle galassie attuali. -Classificazione delle Galassie- Hubble infatti le distinse in base al loro aspetto ed alle loro dimensioni in gruppi omogenei, suddivisi a loro volta in sottogruppi: ELLITTICHE - Hanno una forma ellissoidale con un nucleo molto intenso che si disperde verso l'esterno. Per la maggior parte sono composte da stelle di vecchia formazione; SPIRALI - Dello stesso tipo della nostra galassia, si caratterizzano per il nucleo centrale, di forma quasi sferica, che si trova circondato da un alone da cui si dipartono i bracci a forma di spirale. In questo tipo di galassia coesistono stelle di tutte le età, anche se quelle più giovani sembrano trovarsi nel disco; BARRATE - Pressocchè uguali alle precedenti, differiscono solo per i bracci, che invece di essere a forma di spirale, sono collegati agli estremi di una barra centrale. Altri gruppi minori sono quelle irregolari, dalle forme prive di simmetria, e le lenticolari, una via di mezzo fra quelle ellittiche e quelle a spirali, che probabilmente hanno perso la forma originaria per l'interazione gravitazionale con altri corpi galattici vicini. -Distribuzione delle galassie- Le galassie hanno la caratteristica di aggregarsi in ammassi e quindi in superammassi (un migliaio di oggetti nel primo caso e centinaia di migliaia nel secondo) che possono essere aperti, se composti da una struttura irregolare, o regolari, se mostrano una forma sferica che solitamente è più densa verso il centro. Considerando l'alta densità che caratterizza i superammassi, può capitare che avvengano scontri fra galassie, ma senza le conseguenze che si potrebbero immaginare. Esse sono costituite infatti da zone estremamente rarefatte, con il risultato che spesso si fondono fra loro creandone delle altre di dimensioni maggiori. Se invece lo scontro avviene a velocità tali da permettere di sfuggire alla forza di mutua attrazione, allora esse verrano intaccate solo marginalmente, subendo variazioni nella loro forma. -Galassie attive- Oltre a quelle enunciate, esistono anche altre specie di galassie, che emettendo energia in grandissima quantità sotto forma di radiazioni, si meritano l'appellativo di galassie attive. Le cause di tutto questo sono ancora sconosciute, forse un buco nero che risiede nel nucleo galattico, ma è comunque possibile distinguerle secondo il tipo di energia irradiata in: RADIOGALASSIE - Emettono radiazioni sotto forma di onde radio ed hanno una forma ellittica ed un nucleo formato da due lobi contrapposti; QUASARS - Particolari tipi di radiogalassie scoperte negli anni '60 e situate a distanze enormi, che emettono una quantità di energia centinaia di volte maggiore quella di una galassia normale; GALASSIE DI MARKARIAN - La loro caratteristica è la grande emissione di radiazione ultravioletta ed è probabile che siano fra le più giovani di tutto l'universo; GALASSIE DI SEYFERT - Scoperte dall'astronomo di cui portano il nome, sono caratterizzate da emissioni di raggi gamma, da una forma a spirale e da un nucleo molto luminoso. [View \| Download]	UNIVERSO VIAGGIO NELLE GALASSIE 1° parte di 5 Le galassie sono degli enormi contenitori di stelle, il cui diametro può essere di centinaia di migliaia di anni luce, che come delle vere e proprie isole nell'universo si trovano situate nello spazio a distanze enormi (miliardi di a.l.) le une dalle altre. A separarle solo immense quantità di pulviscolo intergalattico e materiale interstellare estremamente rarefatto. Data la grandissima distanza che ci separa dalle più vicine, esse sono state scoperte solo negli ultimi tre secoli, anche se la certezza della loro esistenza la si è avuta solo nel 1924, grazie ad E. Hubble, che misurando la distanza di alcune cefeidi individuate nella galassia di Andromeda, ebbe la prova di come quest'ultima fosse situata nello spazio esterno ben al di là della Via Lattea. Prima di allora, infatti, quelle poche galassie che erano state scoperte venivano scambiate per stelle o nebulose, vista la mancanza di strumenti adeguati all'osservazione di oggetti così lontani. -Protogalassie- La nascita delle galassie è ancora avvolta nel mistero, ma sembra che esse traggano la loro origine per l'aggregazione della materia primordiale che, centinaia di milioni di anni dopo il Big-Bang, iniziò ad addensarsi in grandi nubi, le quali, a causa delle immense forze gravitazionali risultanti, cominciarono a contrarsi ed a ruotare attorno a se stesse dando vita alle "protogalassie". E' sicuramente in questo frangente, che le diverse velocità di rotazione condizionarono quelle che poi sarebbero risultate le forme finali di ciascuna delle galassie attuali. -Classificazione delle Galassie- Hubble infatti le distinse in base al loro aspetto ed alle loro dimensioni in gruppi omogenei, suddivisi a loro volta in sottogruppi: ELLITTICHE - Hanno una forma ellissoidale con un nucleo molto intenso che si disperde verso l'esterno. Per la maggior parte sono composte da stelle di vecchia formazione; SPIRALI - Dello stesso tipo della nostra galassia, si caratterizzano per il nucleo centrale, di forma quasi sferica, che si trova circondato da un alone da cui si dipartono i bracci a forma di spirale. In questo tipo di galassia coesistono stelle di tutte le età, anche se quelle più giovani sembrano trovarsi nel disco; BARRATE - Pressocchè uguali alle precedenti, differiscono solo per i bracci, che invece di essere a forma di spirale, sono collegati agli estremi di una barra centrale. Altri gruppi minori sono quelle irregolari, dalle forme prive di simmetria, e le lenticolari, una via di mezzo fra quelle ellittiche e quelle a spirali, che probabilmente hanno perso la forma originaria per l'interazione gravitazionale con altri corpi galattici vicini. -Distribuzione delle galassie- Le galassie hanno la caratteristica di aggregarsi in ammassi e quindi in superammassi (un migliaio di oggetti nel primo caso e centinaia di migliaia nel secondo) che possono essere aperti, se composti da una struttura irregolare, o regolari, se mostrano una forma sferica che solitamente è più densa verso il centro. Considerando l'alta densità che caratterizza i superammassi, può capitare che avvengano scontri fra galassie, ma senza le conseguenze che si potrebbero immaginare. Esse sono costituite infatti da zone estremamente rarefatte, con il risultato che spesso si fondono fra loro creandone delle altre di dimensioni maggiori. Se invece lo scontro avviene a velocità tali da permettere di sfuggire alla forza di mutua attrazione, allora esse verrano intaccate solo marginalmente, subendo variazioni nella loro forma. -Galassie attive- Oltre a quelle enunciate, esistono anche altre specie di galassie, che emettendo energia in grandissima quantità sotto forma di radiazioni, si meritano l'appellativo di galassie attive. Le cause di tutto questo sono ancora sconosciute, forse un buco nero che risiede nel nucleo galattico, ma è comunque possibile distinguerle secondo il tipo di energia irradiata in: RADIOGALASSIE - Emettono radiazioni sotto forma di onde radio ed hanno una forma ellittica ed un nucleo formato da due lobi contrapposti; QUASARS - Particolari tipi di radiogalassie scoperte negli anni '60 e situate a distanze enormi, che emettono una quantità di energia centinaia di volte maggiore quella di una galassia normale; GALASSIE DI MARKARIAN - La loro caratteristica è la grande emissione di radiazione ultravioletta ed è probabile che siano fra le più giovani di tutto l'universo; GALASSIE DI SEYFERT - Scoperte dall'astronomo di cui portano il nome, sono caratterizzate da emissioni di raggi gamma, da una forma a spirale e da un nucleo molto luminoso.
