Téléphoner au volant est une source de distraction qui altère la concentration des conducteurs, en détournant leur attention de la circulation. Conduire en téléphonant provoque également les effets suivants : *une certaine fixité du regard qui se traduit par une négligence de surveillance notamment dans les rétroviseurs du champ périphérique ; *une moins bonne appréciation et perception des situations, une altération de lattention allouée à la conduite ; *une augmentation du rythme cardiaque, traduisant une augmentation de la charge mentale liée à la difficulté de réaliser simultanément deux tâches ; Au volant dun véhicule, au guidon dun deux-roues, quil soit ou non motorisé, une seconde de distraction peut avoir des conséquences dramatiques : en cas dimprévu, le temps de réaction pour un conducteur au téléphone augmente de 50% en moyenne. La distance darrêt du véhicule en cas durgence est donc plus grande et peut être à lorigine dun accident.
