Hermione el sem hiszi mi történik vele, határtalanul boldog. A táncot követően azonban Piton eltűnik. A lány követi, így szemtanuja lesz, ahogyan Perselus megidézi Lily Potter szellemét. Hermione összeomlik, mert világossá válik előtte: a bájitaltanár még mindig a nőt szereti - túl időn és téren. A lány képtelen elrejteni érzelmeit, így hamarosan Piton rájön; Hermione szerelmes belé és/de neheztel rá. Váltanak pár szót, s abból a tanárnak egyértelművé válik, honnan fakad Granger reménytelensége. De a távolság közöttük egyre csak nő... Beszélni próbál Hermionéval, a lány teljesen felkavarja. Ha nehezen is, végül egymásra találnak, s megvallják egymásnak titkos vonzalmukat. A szerelem beteljesül, a pár boldogséga már-már határtalan. Egy nap azonban a sötét jegy felizzik Perselus karján...
