GALICIA: CANTARES DE REIS / GALICIAN COUPLETS OF HOLY KINGS Os Cantares de Reis chamados nalgúns lugares da nosa xeografía como "reises" ou "aguinaldos", son pequenas composicións cantadas que tradicionalmente entonábanse divididas en dous grupos e que narran a historia do nacemento do neno Xesús maila chegada dos reis Magos a Belén coas súas reliquias. Estas composicións adoitaban presentar tres partes: a petición de licencia pra o canto, a cantiga narrativa propiamente dita e finalmente, a petición de aguinaldo, que tradicionalmente consistía en algo de xantar ou doces pra montaren unha festa. En moitos lugares aparecía a figura máxica do Gaiteiro interpretando xotas e muiñeiras pra abri-la festa. No video amósanse dous temas sonoros de execución espontánea: "Coplas de Nadal, Aninovo e Reises" ( Soto-Ustre )e "Reises" ( Hio )-localidades de Pontevedra- . Contidos no disco de Alan Lomax "The Spanish Recordings:Galicia" -gravacións realizadas no ano 1952-, o documento sonoro baseado nun criterio musicolóxico máis antigo de que se dispoñe da Nosa música tradicional . ----------------------------------- The "Cantares de Reis" ( galician "Couplets singings of Holy Kings" ) called in some places of the Galician geography as "reises" ( "kings" ) or "aguinaldos" ("bonuses"), are small compositions sung that traditionally were intoned divided in two groups and that narrate the history of the birth of the child Jesus and the arrival of the Holy Kings to Bethlehem with their relics. These compositions are accustomed to present three parts: the request of license for the singing, the narrative troubadour poem in strict sense and finally, the request of bonus, which traditionally was consisting of something of eating or sweets to prepare a holiday-party. In many places the magic figure of the Piper was appearing interpreting jots and "muiñeiras" to open this parties. In the video two songs sound of spontaneous execution: "Coplas de Nadal, Aninovo e Reises" -" Couplets of Christmas, NewYear and Holy Kings "- ( from Soto-Ustre) and "Reises" -"Holy kings"- ( from Hio )- localities of the Galician province of Pontevedra-. Rjd2 - Work It Out This is the video for Rjd2's "Work It Out" from 'The Third Hand' (XL Recordings). The vid features Bill Shannon who was born with a degenerative hip condition. His legs cannot carry his own weight and so he has lived a life on crutches. He has developed a new way of moving through life on his skateboard and the crutches. Though this may look like a recreational hobby or a debilitation, it is simply how Bill maneuvers throughout the day. In time to Rjd2's song "Work It Out" we follow Bill as he makes his way around. At the slow start, Bill is descending the courthouse steps in downtown Brooklyn. It's difficult, but he makes it down and the rest you'll just have to watch to understand. Rjd2 plays several extras which you can try to spot as well. The video, directed by Joey Garfield, is one continuous single shot for the length of the song.
