East Tennessee & Western North Carolina Railroad Company " Tweetsie Railroad" By Conrail6370 Hi all, I hope you enjoy this old time look of the East Tennessee & Western North Carolina Railroad Company. The film was taken by The late Sam Parks of Chicago, Ill. in the 1950's - 60's with 16mm film . The information was provided by Mr. Parks it was written on the back of the film box. I bought this film off E bay last year. Information on the two railroad in this film. Opened in 1957, Tweetsie Railroad originally started out as just a train ride aboard steam locomotive #12, the only surviving narrow-gauge engine left from the East Tennessee and Western North Carolina Railroad (ET&WNC). Built in 1917 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works, #12 is a 3 ft (914 mm) (narrow gauge) 4-6-0 coal-fired locomotive that was used to haul passengers and freight over the ET&WNC's 66-mile (106.2 km) line running from Johnson City over the Appalachian Mountains to Boone, North Carolina. After the narrow gauge portion of the ET&WNC ceased operations in 1950, the locomotive was purchased by a group of railroad enthusiasts and was taken to Rockingham County, Virginia to operate over the small "Shenandoah Central tourist line in 1952. In 1961, shortly after Pigeon Forge officially incorporated, North Carolina brothers Grover and Harry Robbins opened Rebel Railroad in the town's Middle Creek area. The railroad simulated a ride on a Confederate steam train that was under attack by Union soldiers during the Civil War, playing upon the centennial of the war that was sweeping the country at the time. After the Union assault was beaten back, the railroad came to a stop at a mock-frontier mountain town, complete with blacksmith shop, general store, and saloon. By 1964, the Civil War Centennial was beginning to die down, so the Robbins brothers decided to rename Rebel Railroad Goldrush Junction. The attraction was reworked with a "Wild West" theme replacing the Civil War theme, in similar fashion to the Robbins' other tourist train ride in North Carolina, Tweetsie Railroad. Goldrush Junction was much more successful than Rebel Railroad had ever been, prompting the Robbins to buy a log flume amusement ride and erect it on the property in 1967 The first operation visited was the Gold Rush Junction, home of the Gold Rush, Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, & Western Railroad. The operation was formerly called the Rebel Railroad and today is known as Dollywood. At the entrance to the park were two locos on display on hills on both sides of the road. One was Ex-Genesee & Wyoming Railroad 2-6-0 #9 (BLW #34964 7, 1910) and the other was ex-East Tennessee, Virginia & Georgia Railroad #419 (BLW #8869 11, 1887). Inside was a typical old west town with a train ride around a loop, complete with a hold-up by outlaws. The power for the train was the 3 ft gauge 2-8-2 #192 ex-WP&Y #192 (BLW #69427 2, 1943). The engine had the obligatory bright colors and the fake wood burner stack. Grand Funk Railroad - Into The Sun - 1970 By JohninFunk As I promised, here's Grand Funk Railroad's 'Into The Sun' video with all info available, re-edited and re-synchronized. Taping was done at a Grand Funk show at the 'Pirates World Amusement Park' theatre, in Dania, Florida. Pirates World was a theme park finally closed after Disney World opened in Orlando [as some friends informed me] Barry Mahon -the one man crew film maker- who relocated there after New York, was arranging for 'big name groups' appearances at the Pirates World and use to film them with his single camera. (the reason why very limited footage existing from any angle) The date was January 16 1970, but some of the footage was filmed the very next day... (Grand Funk played both 16 & 17 at the Pirates World) Then again, as the footage film still was very limited, he would use some psychedelic drawings filling the gap... He also create a psychedelic title track intro for the movie. Without GFR's and/or Knight's permission Mahon added this footage (plus some sexy scenes) to the original 1967 movie 'Mondo Daytona' and renamed it to 'Weekend Rebellion' in 1970. The promo poster for the two -low budget- movies came as pack (he also did 'Musical Mutiny' w/ Iron Butterfly) refers to the song 'Into The Sun' as... 'On Time' and 'Paranoid' as... 'Paranoia' (!) In the glory reunion years (actually, 1997) the film renamed for one more time (!) and was thrown in the market in VHS format as 'Get Down Grand Funk' for reasons best left unexplained... Amtrak train - car collision footage - cab view (read description!!) By elbuenohombre This is video footage from the cab of an Amtrak train that collided with a car early in the summer of 2009. This event occurred at the Hannan crossing in Canton Township. This is train 353, which travels from Pontiac, MI to Chicago via Detroit on the Michigan line, This segment is owned by Norfolk Southern. It was travelling at 70 mph westbound around 12:10 pm. This is potentially what can happen when someone doesn't yield for an oncoming train. Please be safe and never disregard the warning lights and gates at a railroad crossing. Trains cannot swerve or stop quickly. Stay safe. This video was released by the Canton police department. BEST OF Train Vs. Tornado - AMAZING View From Cab!!! By PumpkinHogger Watch the entire video, it's a shocker! This occurred 7Jan2008 on the Union Pacific railroad near Harvard IL. You can see the trees being whipped, hear debris hitting the trailing engine from which the video came, and then see debris flying through the air from the F3 tornado that blows some cars over. Then the rest of the train carried along by its' momentum smashes its' way along creating even more of a mess. The tank car seen in the vid, containing shock fluid, leaked for hours before it was contained. The tornado started at 3:30 pm about 1.2 miles north of Poplar Grove in Boone county and ended at 3:48 pm about 3.2 miles north northeast of Harvard in McHenry county, Illinois. The first signs of damage were at Quail Trap road where trees were damaged and sections of roofing were removed from a shed. A large barn was destroyed and other buildings were severely damaged. Large trees were snapped or uprooted. The tornado reached its maximum intensity of EF3 at the northeast corner of Centerville road and Beaverton road. A two story farm house and garage were leveled and large trees were stripped of all branches. The tornado was about 100 yards wide through this area. There was damage to trees, power lines, barns, and sheds. The tornado then crossed the Boone/McHenry county line as a weak EF0 tornado with just minor tree damage at this point. It crossed Hunter road and continued to track northeast across Ryan road as an EF0 and caused mainly minor tree damage. It crossed White Oaks road then it uprooted a hardwood tree and snapped off pine trees at their base along Maxon road. The tornado intensified as it moved toward the town of Lawrence where it produced the worst damage. Significant damage occurred in the town of Lawrence particularly at a house that had more than half of its roof ripped off and garage blown out. The tornado then moved across the Chicago and Northwestern railroad where it blew 12 railroad freight cars off the track. The train was moving at the time the tornado hit it...so as the main engine stopped...the remaining cars on the track continued along it and slammed into the front part of the train. This caused a few more cars to derail...including one containing hazardous materials that caused the evacuation of the town of Lawrence. As the tornado moved east of Lawrence it once again started to weaken with some tree damage and shingles off of a few houses on the northeast side of town. It then ran along Oak Grove road for a stretch where it produced EF1 damage with a hardwood tree snapped at its base and knocked over an old...weakly structured barn with estimated winds around 100 mph. It then headed across farm fields and headed for hwy 14 where it damaged a metal barn and sheared a few trees. As it crossed highway 14 it flipped a semi-trailer and injured the driver at a truck stop weigh station. Veres died from cancer. In 1970 Venus reached the top of the American music charts but Shocking Blue did not have any other success that matched their big hit. The group split up in 1974. Their song Venus would go on to make it to number one in the American Billboard chart two more times - in 1981 by cover band Stars on 45 and in 1986 in a version by girlband Bananarama. In the late 1980s Shocking Blue also served as an inspiration for grunge band Nirvana who covered the band's song Love Buzz on their 1989 debut album Bleach.
