LIMA ENFRENTA SU PEOR CATASTROFE ECOLOGICA,por las 300,000 toneladas de residuos altamente tóxicos a punto de caer al río Rímac.INVERSION SI,PERO ASI NO. Fuentes oficiales peruanas confirmaron hoy(17 julio) que hay riesgo de que se desplome un cerro cubierto de residuos tóxicos de una mina situada a unos 90 kilómetros de Lima, lo que podría contaminar el río Rímac, del que se abastecen la capital y el puerto de El Callao. La revista "Caretas" informó hoy sobre la amenaza que representa la posibilidad de un desplome de los "relaves" o residuos amontonados en un cerro cercano a la mina Coricancha, propiedad de una empresa de capitales canadienses. El director del Instituto Nacional de Defensa Civil (Indeci) para Lima y Callao, James Atkins, explicó a Efe que los "relaves", que contienen metales pesados como hierro, arsénico, zinc, plomo y antimonio, "están ejerciendo un peso inadecuado en el cerro y éste ha cedido un poco", por lo que está bajo vigilancia permanente Aunque señaló que el "cerro seguirá moviéndose" mientras no se retire la montaña de residuos, Atkins destacó que es "difícil" determinar cuándo podría desplomarse. En cualquier caso la zona será declarada en emergencia esta semana, según el funcionario. Atkins manifestó que la empresa minera SAN JUAN, propiedad de la canadiense Hawk Resourses, aun no ha cumplido con algunas de las medidas de seguridad que el Indeci y el Organismo Supervisor de la Inversión en Energía y Minería (Osinergmin) han ordenado para evitar que se produzca un derrumbe. Ambos organismos han prohibido que se sigan vertiendo desechos al cerro y ordenado el retiro inmediato del total de los relaves y la suspensión inmediata del regadío en las zonas de cultivo aledañas a la mina, lo que se está cumpliendo a la fecha, señaló la fuente. Tanto Indeci como Osinergmin exigieron que se coloquen los residuos "en una nueva cancha y en un sitio adecuado" y se busque estabilizar el cerro, pero esto aún no ha sido implementado por la minera, acotó Atkins. "Caretas" citó en su información un informe del Osinergmin en el que el pasado 26 de junio se advertía de que la acumulación de residuos "constituyen un peligro inminente de colapso que ocasionaría un impacto negativo a la cuenca del río Rímac". Además, agrega Caretas, un desplome de los residuos también afectaría a una planta procesadora de metales, tres líneas férreas y un tramo de la carretera central, que comunica a la capital peruana con el interior del país. El director adjunto para los servicios públicos y medio ambiente de la Defensoría del Pueblo de Perú, Vito Verna, dijo a Efe que su oficina también coincide en la "necesidad urgente de movilizar los relaves", que constituyen "un factor de riesgo". Al pedir a la minera y las autoridades que se tomen las medidas necesarias para evitar que el cerro colapse, Verna dijo que el Estado también tiene el deber de velar por "los derechos de los ciudadanos" y el correcto "suministro de agua a la capital".(Los Tiempos . com ). El director del Instituto Nacional de Defensa Civil (Indeci) para Lima y Callao, James Atkins, explicó a Efe que los "relaves", que contienen metales pesados como hierro, arsénico, zinc, plomo y antimonio, "están ejerciendo un peso inadecuado en el cerro y éste ha cedido un poco", por lo que está bajo vigilancia permanente Aunque señaló que el "cerro seguirá moviéndose" mientras no se retire la montaña de residuos, Atkins destacó que es "difícil" determinar cuándo podría desplomarse. En cualquier caso la zona será declarada en emergencia esta semana, según el funcionario. Atkins manifestó que la empresa minera SAN JUAN, propiedad de la canadiense Hawk Resourses, aun no ha cumplido con algunas de las medidas de seguridad que el Indeci y el Organismo Supervisor de la Inversión en Energía y Minería (Osinergmin) han ordenado para evitar que se produzca un derrumbe. Ambos organismos han prohibido que se sigan vertiendo desechos al cerro y ordenado el retiro inmediato del total de los relaves y la suspensión inmediata del regadío en las zonas de cultivo aledañas a la mina, lo que se está cumpliendo a la fecha, señaló la fuente. Tanto Indeci como Osinergmin exigieron que se coloquen los residuos "en una nueva cancha y en un sitio adecuado" y se busque estabilizar el cerro, pero esto aún no ha sido implementado por la minera, acotó Atkins. "Caretas" citó en su información un informe del Osinergmin en el que el pasado 26 de junio se advertía de que la acumulación de residuos "constituyen un peligro inminente de colapso que ocasionaría un impacto negativo a la cuenca del río Rímac". Además, agrega Caretas, un desplome de los residuos también afectaría a una planta procesadora de metales, tres líneas férreas y un tramo de la carretera central, que comunica a la capital peruana con el interior del país. El director adjunto para los servicios públicos y medio ambiente de la Defensoría del Pueblo de Perú, Vito Verna, dijo a Efe que su oficina también coincide en la "necesidad urgente de movilizar los relaves", que constituyen "un factor de riesgo". Al pedir a la minera y las autoridades que se tomen las medidas necesarias para evitar que el cerro colapse, Verna dijo que el Estado también tiene el deber de velar por "los derechos de los ciudadanos" y el correcto "suministro de agua a la capital".(Los Tiempos . com ).
