Contra 3: Final level (beginner/medium difficulty), Level 6 By ryansjones New: thinking about getting this game? Please be sure to visit my new affiliate store on video games, hosted by amazon.com at http://astore.amazon.com/rjvideogamer-20 This is me playing through level 6 (the final level in the game) on medium difficulty. I was unusually lucky on this level, as i was able to keep deaths low this time around. However, when I was capturing the video, the game was running a little slow, and so it made it easier for me to react to enemy fire before it can kill me. Anyways, this will be the second to last video from Contra 3 that I will post for a while (the next one will be me playing through the same level on hard mode, which features 3 forms of the final Red Falcon boss, instead of the traditional 2 from the other two modes). Aero the Acro-Bat (Sega Genesis) Circus - Act 1 By DarkEvil87 Aero the Acro-Bat (get it? As in Acrobatic Bat) was created by Sunsoft during the mascot craze of the 16-bit era, a period where mascots were being more and more associated with their respective company, such as Mario from Nintendo and Sonic the Hedgehog from Sega. Sunsoft never did so well outside Japan after the 16-bit era, but Aero, being from that period in video gaming, did enjoy some success, they even made a sequel. In this video, the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive version is shown, but the game was also released on the SNES and much later on the GBA with a save feature, not present in prior versions such as this one. Enjoy this video of the first act and the wackiness of the soundtrack. Note: The audio gets a little bit out of sync, not too much, as the video advances. That's my bad, sorry! Earthworm Jim (The Whole Can 'O Worms - PC/DOS) New Junk City - 1st Level By DarkEvil87 Remember this guy? While not technically a guy or even a human being, everybody thought he was cool when the game came out. It was very popular and it was even made into an animated series for kids. This game features one of the most insane stories and insane gameplay. Space pirates had stolen the Super Suit, property of Queen Slug-for-a-Butt (I'm totally not kidding), twin sister of Princess What's-Her-Name (still not kidding). Psy-Crow (a crow, the sadistic archenemy of all living worms), a bounty hunter working for Slugbutt, tracked the pirates and shot at them, causing the suit to fall off on a worm, Jim. The Super Suit mutated the worm into a super-powered anthropomorphic being. Since Slugbutt planned to use it for her own evil plans, she wants it back. Armed with a plasma blaster which was conveniently placed on the belt of the Super Suit, Earthworm Jim, the hero, is born. He goes on a fight against evil and for his own survival. The game is clearly made to look like a cartoon, with a nice 16-bit soundtrack, and it's packed with wacky action platforming where you blast or whip your enemies with your own worm head. What more can you ask for? It's one of the funniest and most entertaining game from that time period. Originally released on the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive and subsequently ported on the SNES, Sega CD, Game Boy, Sega Game Gear, PC/Win95/DOS, Sega Master System, Game Boy Advance. The Genesis/Mega Drive version was more recently released for the Wii's Virtual Console, but this video is of the PC/DOS version from the Earthworm Jim 1 & 2: The Whole Can 'O Worms compilation. The PC version improves on the console versions mainly by featuring a CD quality soundtrack. There is a Special Edition, released for Sega CD and Windows 95, featuring slightly expanded levels and a new level as well as the CD quality soundtrack. The Whole Can 'O Worms version has a smoother display than the Special Edition for Windows 95 (and also features the sequel Earthworm Jim 2), but it is sadly missing the expanded levels and the new level. By the way, the intro of this video also comes from the PC version, but you will notice that it's the same one they used in the animated series, only in lower quality since it's compressed to fit on the disc along with the game, but also maybe for the lack of better video codecs at the time. Note: If you watch the high quality version of this video, you will notice faint dark lines in the cartoon intro which are not present in the normal quality version. This is caused by the resolution which is not the same between normal and high. When you play the game on your computer, the intro is stretched from 320X240 to 640X480 pixels. To do this stretching, the game does this very noticeable interlacing (the darker lines) which doubles the number of pixels in a not so great looking way. The resolution is low for YouTube's normal quality version, so it effectively eliminates the interlacing issue, but it still needs to do a little bit of interlacing for the high quality version which is of a higher resolution than the normal version. There's no interlacing issue for the rest of the video and none of that is my fault anyway, so I just wanted to clear that up.
