DC Electric Motor

he forces on the wire segments of the current loop in an electric motor depends upon the geometry of the loop (relative to the magnetic field) as well as the direction of the current. This animation illustrates those forces and the role of the commutator in switching the current direction so that torque on the loop continues to keep the loop spinning.

AMERICA'S ARMY 3 JUST LIKE REAL LIFE

Your average AA3 HYPER REALISTIC gameplay. Yeah, I love AA3 and think the game is a total blast...when it -works-. Sadly, silly crap like this is the norm at the current point in time. I really hope they patch it up cause honestly it gets a bit tiresome when using your gun is less effective then just using 'nades at point blank or moving in for a melee.

Leonard Susskind - String Theory (Compilation 2010).

Leonard Susskind (born 1940)[1] is the Felix Bloch professor of theoretical physics at Stanford University, whose research interests include string theory, quantum field theory, quantum statistical mechanics and quantum cosmology.[2] He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences,[3] and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences,[4] an associate member of the faculty of Canada's Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics,[5] and a distinguished professor of the Korea Institute for Advanced Study.[6] Susskind is widely regarded as one of the fathers of string theory,[7] who with Yoichiro Nambu and Holger Bech Nielsen, independently introduced the idea that particles could in fact be states of excitation of a relativistic string.[8] He was the first to introduce the idea of the string theory landscape in 2003.[9] In 1997, Susskind was awarded the J.J. Sakurai Prize for his "pioneering contributions to hadronic string models, lattice gauge theories, quantum chromodynamics, and dynamical symmetry breaking". Susskind's hallmark, according to colleagues, has been the application of "brilliant imagination and originality to the theoretical study of the nature of the elementary particles and forces that make up the physical world. Early life and education Susskind was born in a poor Jewish family from the South Bronx section of New York City,[11] and now resides in Palo Alto, California. He began working as a plumber at the age of 16, taking over for his father who had become ill.[11] Later, he enrolled in the City College of New York as an engineering student, graduating with a B.S. in physics in 1962.[4] In an article with the Los Angeles Times, Susskind recalls the moment he discussed with his father this change in career path: "When I told my father I wanted to be a physicist, he said, Hell no, you aint going to work in a drug store. I said no, not a pharmacist. I said, Like Einstein. He poked me in the chest with a piece of plumbing pipe. You aint going to be no engineer, he said. Youre going to be Einstein."[11] He then studied at Cornell University under Peter A. Carruthers where he received his Ph.D. in 1965. He has been married twice, originally in 1960,[4] and has four children. [edit] Career Susskind was an Assistant Professor of Physics, then an Associate Professor at Yeshiva University (19661970), after which he went for a year at the University of Tel Aviv (197172), returning to Yeshiva to become a Professor of Physics (19701979). Since 1979, he has been Professor of Physics at Stanford University,[12] and since 2000, has held the Felix Bloch Professorship of Physics. In 2007, Susskind joined the Faculty of Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, as an Associate Member. He has been elected to the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and was awarded the 1998 Sakurai Prize for theoretical physics. He is also a distinguished professor at Korea Institute for Advanced Study.[13] [edit] Scientific career Susskind was one of at least three physicists who independently discovered during or around 1970 that the Veneziano dual resonance model of strong interactions could be described by a quantum mechanical model of strings,[14] and was the first to propose the idea of the string theory landscape. Susskind has also made contributions in the following areas of physics: * The independent discovery of the string theory model of particle physics. * The theory of quark confinement[15] * The development of Hamiltonian lattice gauge theory[16] * The theory of scaling violations in deep inelastic electroproduction * The theory of symmetry breaking sometimes known as "technicolor theory"[17] * The second, yet independent, theory of cosmological baryogenesis.[18] (Sakharov's work was first, but was mostly unknown in the Western hemisphere.) The story goes that "In 1970, a young physicist named Leonard Susskind got stuck in an elevator with Murray Gell-Mann, one of physics' top theoreticians, who asked him what he was working on. Susskind said he was working on a theory that represented particles 'as some kind of elastic string, like a rubber band.' Gell-Mann responded with loud, derisive laughter."[24]

Supercooled Water Nucleation Experiments

Relatively pure water cooled slowly below the freezing point may remain liquid (supercooled). It may then crystallize into ice quickly by some catalyst: here, strong vibrations, and seeding by an ice crystal. And no -- for those who have seen sodium acetate and don't understand supercooled liquids -- this is NOT sodium acetate; it is just pure drinking water. Don't even bother suggesting otherwise; this issue has been covered completely in the comments.

Meteorology Tutorial: Cyclones and Anticyclones

Anticyclones are basically the opposite of cyclones (Greek prefix, anti, means opposite). Cyclones are areas of surface convergence and upper level divergence, and since anticyclones are the exact opposite, anticyclones are areas of surface divergence and upper level convergence. A cyclone is formed as a result of expanding, rising, and unstable air caused by heating. However as volume increases, the temperature decreases. According to Charles law, at a constant pressure, volume varies directly with absolute temperature. But still, why is it that when the volume increases, the expanding airs temperature decreases. According to the Kinetic theory, gas molecules are in constant random motion, and thus move hither and thither. Now in most cases, heat is energy, and when heat is added into a reaction, it often acts as a catalyst. Hence, the gas molecules move faster and take up more space as they move at higher velocities, increasing the volume. So now one liter of the air parcel would now occupy more space than it did previously. Moreover as the gas molecules move faster, they interact and bounce off each other more. As they bounce off each other, they transport some of that energy to each other, but some of that energy is also released in to the ambient air (Latent heat), causing a loss of energy. It is in a sense, semi-nuclear fusion phenomena. They then become cooler as they lose energy, and if the air contains ample water vapor, it would actually condense into clouds, cooling the surrounding area even further. This is why rain and cooler weather are often associated with low pressure systems. On the other hand, anticyclones formed as a result of contracting, sinking and stable air, caused by cooling or a relatively dry environment. Now because air molecules are more contracted in anticyclones, they have less space to move, and will actually hit each other more. This causes an increase in temperature, and because there were no external forces involved, the air warms adiabatically. For example if you use an air compressor, youll notice that the more you compress the air, the warmer it will become. This is why higher temperatures are often associated with regions of high pressure. In most cases, high pressure systems are what drive atmospheric phenomena such as heat waves. But depending on which side of the cyclone or anticyclone axis you are, the temperature may vary. For example if you are at the eastern side of an anticyclone in the northern hemisphere, the temperature will likely be cooler due to northerly winds; but the temperature would be warmer at the eastern side of a cyclone due to southerly winds. Cyclones and anticyclones work in a perpetual-unbreakable harmony; without anticyclones there would be no cyclones. Air flows from areas of higher pressure to low pressure, just as water can flow from the higher levels of a mountain to the bottom, or just as water in a sink flows from the surrounding regions to the sink hole—it is just another way nature maintain its equilibrium. As air flows away from an anticyclone to a cyclone, the air moves at a greater velocity as a near the center of the cyclone, just as a rock would roll faster as it nears the bottom of a hill, or just as water would flow faster as it nears the center of a whirlpool. However in the atmosphere the steepness of the air is known as the pressure gradient. Thus, the greater pressure difference between a cyclone and its surroundings; the greater the wind would be, likewise, the greater the steepness of a mountain; the greater the speed a rock could roll down. There are regions in the world where high pressure systems almost constant. They are the subtropical regions, and the Polar Regions. Sinking air from the Hadley cells usually cause anticyclogenesis in numerous parts of the subtropical areas, which is why the subtropical regions have major deserts such as the Kalahari, Sahara, etc. Sinking air from the semi-perpetual polar high usually does the same thing, and that is why the Polar Regions such as Antarctica barely receive any precipitation year round. The subtropical Atlantic is dominated by the Azores and Bermuda high. Because of their predominance, they cause major capping inversions, this region of the Atlantic receives little rainfall a year. Likewise, there are places in the world where low pressure systems are almost constant. Air converges at the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ)* year round, causing copious precipitation. The polar front at approximately 60 degrees latitude is a baroclinic perpetual low pressure system that induces the formation of numerous mid-latitude cyclones in the temperate regions of the earth. The equatorial trough is basically the same thing as the ITCZ, but because the earth tilts, the location of the trough moves meridionally year round.

Wireless Electricity (25-Watt Incandescent bulb) 2.wmv

Experimenters Corner by: Lorrie Matchett. This wireless electricity device that I designed uses the same electronic ballast (28KHz) as in my previous video. It can wirelessly transmit enough electricity / current to power a 24-led dome light or a 25-watt incandescent light bulb ...The bifilar coils are only 1.5" in diameter and they are wound with a #26 magnetic wire x 80-turns each....Important note:.. If you decide on building this device, it will be at your own risk....Electronic ballasts are dangerous due to high voltages generated, so be careful....( epowerplus@gmail.com )

The Observation Problem 1/3: "Observation is Creation"

Visit Dimitri Halley's Facebook Page: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/pages/Dimitri-Halley/188719506864?v=wall The observation problem is presented in psychological terms of projection and Jungian psychology. For a transcript of the lecture go to the writing section of my website (http://dimitrihalley.com). The lecture was part of a course given by Dimitri Halley at the university of Aruba called: Love, Compassion and Intimacy in Modern Society, Interpersonal Relations and Family. A summary of the overall course follows: Perfect balance, relationship, connection, empathy, agape love, love without conditions, and compassion all point to true love which is the oldest power which is known. Why do we fall out of love? At the highest level of development extreme love is felt. Yet all too often true love and compassion is confused and misunderstood. The module will develop an accurate understanding of love and compassion via a multidisciplinary perspective. This will be done by a comparative approach to Eastern and Western scientific and spiritual traditions and also more modern psycho-therapeutic and social traditions, and also art, poetry, music. The role of the ego versus compassion and love will be considered. Also will be elaborated on how social intervention policy and psycho-social care services can respond with compassion (as an intervention method) to clients and social problems on the different levels of society. Core-concepts to approach love and compassion will be consciousness, systemic, critical and paradoxical thinking. A paradoxical and critical understanding of love will be one of the main objectives of the module. The module offers a practical approach toward applying compassion and unconditional regard in modern societies, family and relations. Finally, the video elaborates on what it is that blocks us from the practice and experience of love, intimacy and compassion as care-givers, Institutions, individuals, families, groups and whole societies. The language spoken in the video is Papiamento, English and Dutch with English subtitles.
