Suicide Treatment How effective is mental health treatment at preventing suicide? Do psychiatric drugs actually prevent suicide? You might be surprised to find out that more than half of the suicide tracked by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention were already taking medication for mental illnesses at the time they committed suicide. The CDC has also found that treating suicidality with CBT (Cognitive Behavior Therapy: A type of talk therapy), resulted in higher survival rates that the medication treatments commonly prescribed by psychiatrists.
