Abdul Karim Khansahib, reviver of the Kirana Gharana (if not founder) singing the very popular "Prem Seva Sharan" Marathi Natyageet. One of the reasons Khansahib was so popular was that he picked up songs popular withing specific regions to gain popularity. Khansahib did this with Marathi Natya Sangeet. He has also sung the popular Natya Sangeet "Nachi Sundari Karu Kopa' (based on Raag Jajaiwanti). Many of Khansahib's students started off their careers (during and following tutelage) in Natya Sangeet, like Pt. Sawai Gandharva, Smt. Hirabai Badodekar and others. Many artists today feel that Marathi Natya Sangeet is a degeneration from the "more advanced" Hindustani Shastriya (Classical) Music. In this recording, Khansahib has completely deproved that now absurd belief. Pandit D. V. Paluskar... Raga Kalyan By IMIRZA777 Requested By Prof. Faruq Hassan (Montreal) Pandit D.V. Paluskar was born in Nasik, Maharashtra to well-known Hindustani musician Vishnu Digambar He was only ten years old when his father died, and was subsequently trained by Pandit Vinayakrao Patwardhan and Pandit Narayanrao Vyas. He was also trained by Pandit Chintamanrao Paluskar and Pandit Mirashi Buwa. D.V. Paluskar gave his debut performance at the Harvallabh Sangeet Sammelan in Punjab at the age of fourteen. He inherited the Gwalior gharana and the Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, but he was always open to adopting aesthetic features of other gharanas and styles. He had a very sweet and melodious voice. His alap clearly outlined the raga he sang; this was followed by the bandish embellished by beautiful taans in an effortless enchanting style. He was a master at presenting an attractive and comprehensive picture of a raga in a very short duration. He cut his first disc in 1944 and visited China as a member of the Indian cultural delegation in 1955. Besides pure classical music, he was also a great bhajan singer. Raag Deepavali By IMIRZA777 One of Pandit Pannalal Ghosh significant contributions was that he gave the Bansuri an independent identity among the acknowledged traditional instruments like the Been, Sitar, Sarod and Sarangi. In his performances, he essentially rendered the Khayal Gayaki in its fullness. He played compositions set to such Talas as Jhoomra and Tilwada, which today is almost unheard of, by present day flautists. He then proceeded into Madhyalaya structures and finally the Tarana style, which afforded several elements of Tatkari including Jhala techniques, normally played on plucked instruments like Sitar and Sarod.
