The trumpet, traditionally linked to jazz music, is here playing the role of the singer. The Tablas remain the old Indian musical traditions. The piano, prepared with resonators, sounds like Indonesian melodies and African rhythms. The music of "Les Amants de Juliette" opens a large number of possibilities in combination of traditional accoustique music and contemporary writing, which includes soloists and improvisation. The stakes of the meeting between "Les Amants de Juliette" and Majid Bekkas, a figure of the gnawa culture, are on the expression of trance and on a new lecture of the tradition in a context of a contemporary musical work. İstanbul Erkek Lisesi'nden sonra, Devlet Güzel Sanatlar Akademisi, Yüksek Mimarlık Bölümü'nden mezun oldu. Sırasıyla, mandolin, ud ve klasik gitar çaldı. İleri Türk Mûsıkîsi Konservatuvarı Derneği ve Mûsıkî Kültür Derneklerine devam etti, (öğrenci, korist, udi ve eğitimci olarak) Andrea Paleologos, Pepe Rodriguez, Rafael Nogales ve Nino Ricardo'dan gitar, Cenan Akın ve İstemihan Taviloğlu'ndan armoni dersleri aldı. Cemal Reşid Rey ile armoni, kontrpuan ve kompozisyon çalıştı. Açılışından bu yana, İ.T.Ü. Türk Musıkîsi Devlet Konservatuvarı'nda ud, yüksek lisans üyeliğini yaptı. Halen kompozisyon Bölümü Başkanıdır. Marmara Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi, Müzik Bölümü'nde "Geleneksel-Türk Sanat Müziği" dersini başlattı. 1981-1983 arasında bu dersi verdi. Dernekler, resmi ve özel okullarda, ud ve klasik gitar dersleri verdi. Marcel Bitsch'in "Precis d'Hannonie Tonale" adlı kitabını tercüme etti. Şerif Muhiddin Targan'ın ud icrası ve besteleri üzerine inceleme (Boğaziçi Üniversitesi'nde konferans), Şevki Bey'in bestekârlığı üzerine incelemeleri (TRT için) vardır. "Ud Dersleri" adındaki ud metoâunu hazırladı ve bu metod yayımlandı. "Türk Mûsıkîsi için Form Bilgileri" (tür, biçim, yapı, üslup açısından) ve "Türk Mûsıkîsinde Eser Analizi" adlı çalışmaları henüz yayımlanmamıştır. Perdesiz gitar ihtiyacını neden duydunuz? Esas neden;Türk Müziği içinde olan sesler ile kendi müziğimizin anlatımını ifade edebilmek ihtiyacından,bu birinci neden;ikinci neden ise ;Tampereman sisteminin sınırlılığı,ben fizik de okudum,çocukken keman çaldım,oradan insan sesi ile ilgiliyim,sesi duyum aralığımız içerisinde sonsuz bir şey olduğunu anlamış birisiyim.Dolayısıyla perde,daha doğrusu sınırlı perde,adı üzerinde her zaman kişiyi sınırlıyor.Dolayısıyla doğal ihtiyaçlardan,fiziksel yaklaşımdan,fiziki düşünce yaklaşımından ve felsefi açıdan bakıldığında perdenin kalkması gerekirdi.Daha doğrusu sonsuz perdeli olmak varken neden oniki perden olsun ki?Sonsuz perdeli!Bütün enstrümanlar için böyle olmalı. Perdesiz gitarın Türk Müziği'ne katkısı ne olabilir? Türk Müziği'nin perdesiz gitara katkısı olur.Perdesiz gitar sadece bir araç.Enstrümanlar ikincildir,asıl müziğin kendisidir.Türk Müziği varsa kafalarda yer etmişse hangi enstrümanla yaparsanız yapın.İnsanların burada nefis problemleri var.Enstrüman seslerinin güzellikleri,yaygınlıkları,güncellikleri veya teknik olanaklılıkları insanların kendi egolarıyla ilgilidir.Sorunlara cevap verince sanki o enstrüman rağbet görüyor gibi oluyor.Perdesiz gitarda öyle bir yanlış anlaşılma var:Esas olan müziğin kendisidir.Perdesiz gitarın perdesizlik özgürlüğü nedeni ile bir avantajı varmış gibi görünüyor.Bütün yaylı saz ailesi ve bütün insanların sesleri perdesiz.Aynı şey oralarda da var.Perdesiz gitar sadece Moda,güncelliği veya batıdan müzik işkolu nedeniyle Türkiye'ye ya da dünyaya empoze edilen gitar fantezimi nedeniyle biraz daha ilgi görmüş olabilir. Son olarak tasavvufla ilginizi sormak istiyorum. Son albümünüzün adı da tasavvufi bir terim; "telvin". Okuduğunuz ilahiler de var. İlginiz ne düzeyde? Tasavvufla olan ilgim, şu ağaçla olan ilgim kadar. Veya ağacın etrafla olan ilgisi kadar. Kitabi veya organik bir ilişki değil. Yani tasavvuf eri değilim. Bir yere bağlı değilim. Bir karınca tasavvufla ne kadar ilgiliyse ben de o kadar ilgiliyim. Tabiatla ilgimizle ilgili olarak o izlenimci tecrübede çıktı tasavvuf karşımıza. Biraz kişisel şeyler bunlar.
