AXILLARY BRACHIAL PLEXUS BLOCK. My newest treatment...for Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy. This block is used for procedures of the hand, forearm, and elbow. An injection is given in the patient's axilla (armpit) into a space that surrounds a bundle of nerves that supply feeling to the lower arm. This is usually done with the patient awake with sedation, but can be done with the patient under General Anesthesia. www.nerveblocks.net Tags: axillary, block, brachial, dystrophy, health, nerve, plexus, reflex, rsd, sympathetic 1 Downloads - Last from: (Your Blog here!) |

KT Tape: Lower Back Pain Most lower back pain stems from a combination of overuse, muscle strain, and injury to the muscles, ligaments, and discs that support the spine. Over time muscle strain can lead to an overall imbalance in the spinal structure. This leads to a constant tension on the muscles, ligaments, bones, and discs, making the back more prone to injury or re-injury. KT Tape provides support and relieves tension on affected muscles in the lower back, allowing muscles to relax and work in a more natural way without placing additional stress on other muscle groups. Relief is generally felt immediately and allows muscles to recover more rapidly. Coccyx pain, Tailbone pain, Coccydynia, and Sciatica Help Coccyx pain or Sciatica? http://www.insprico.com The Sciata® seating system was developed to help those with sciatica and coccyx or tailbone pain sit more comfortably. It comes in three distinct styles: CX, DL, and SL. The CX is ideal for the average person who wishes to sit more comfortably and those with lower back or coccyx pain. Pressure is alleviated from the tailbone with the unique Troff™ design. The CX is a welcome companion when it comes to sitting on hard surfaces. The DL is intended for those with sciatic nerve pain in both legs, the DL allows the legs to float partially uncompressed on either side. The Troff™ design alleviates pressure from the coccyx and lower back. The SL is intended for those with sciatic nerve pain in one leg and may be situated to relieve pressure from either limb. The Troff™ design alleviates pressure from the coccyx and lower back. I directed this video for Inspri and produced the music behind it. I built the green screen, the lighting rig and the teleprompter used to film the video. I also animated the "nerve pain" sequences. More of my music and film work can be seen at www.myspace.com/tonewood and my youtube profile. Nerve Physiology - sciatic nerve and gastrocnemius A clip from Physiology lab. We ran a current of moderate tetanizing strength through the sciatic nerve of a frog's leg. Movement of the gastrocnemius muscle was then observed. The current was gradually intensified, and the changes in the motion of the leg noted. Glaucoma Surgery http://www.nucleusinc.com/medical-animation Glaucoma is a group of diseases that can damage the eye's optic nerve and result in vision loss and blindness. This 3D medical animation depicts the anatomy and physiology of the eye and demonstrates the different surgical techniques commonly used to treat glaucoma. The optic nerve connects the retina to the brain. The retina is the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye. A healthy optic nerve is necessary for good vision. In the front of the eye is a space called the anterior chamber. A clear fluid flows continuously in and out of the chamber and nourishes nearby tissues. The fluid leaves the chamber at the open angle where the cornea and iris meet. When the fluid reaches the angle, it flows through a spongy meshwork, like a drain, and leaves the eye. Sometimes, when the fluid reaches the angle, it passes too slowly through the meshwork drain. As the fluid builds up, the pressure inside the eye rises to a level that may damage the optic nerve. When the optic nerve is damaged from increased pressure, open-angle glaucoma--and vision loss--may result. The three common treatments for glaucoma are Laser Trabeculoplasty, Cyclophotocoagulation and Trabeculectomy. Adult Stem Cell Results & Embryonic Stem Cell Ethics Video Adult Stem Cell Research: Making a Difference Today from Rosenberg Communications, Inc. The Gerard Health Foundation has produced a powerful video on adult stem cell research, showing its advantages over embryonic stem cell research. The public domain video offers useful, yet often ignored, information about adult stem cell research. We believe the information you'll see in the video is essential to making an informed judgment about the debate over this research. This film is consistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, which state that the ablation of the inner cell mass (ICM) of the blastocyst, which critically and irremediably damages the human embryo, curtailing its development, is a gravely immoral act and consequently is gravely illicit. No end believed to be good, such as the use of stem cells for the preparation of other differentiated cells to be used in what look to be promising therapeutic procedures, can justify an intervention of this kind. A good end does not make right an action which in itself is wrong. An adult stem cell is an undifferentiated cell found among differentiated cells in a tissue or organ, can renew itself, and can differentiate to yield the major specialized cell types of the tissue or organ. The primary roles of adult stem cells in a living organism are to maintain and repair the tissue in which they are found. Some scientists now use the term somatic stem cell instead of adult stem cell. Unlike embryonic stem cells, which are defined by their origin (the inner cell mass of the blastocyst), the origin of adult stem cells in mature tissues is unknown. Research on adult stem cells has recently generated a great deal of excitement. Scientists have found adult stem cells in many more tissues than they once thought possible. This finding has led scientists to ask whether adult stem cells could be used for transplants. In fact, adult blood forming stem cells from bone marrow have been used in transplants for 30 years. Certain kinds of adult stem cells seem to have the ability to differentiate into a number of different cell types, given the right conditions. If this differentiation of adult stem cells can be controlled in the laboratory, these cells may become the basis of therapies for many serious common diseases. The history of research on adult stem cells began about 40 years ago. In the 1960s, researchers discovered that the bone marrow contains at least two kinds of stem cells. One population, called hematopoietic stem cells, forms all the types of blood cells in the body. A second population, called bone marrow stromal cells, was discovered a few years later. Stromal cells are a mixed cell population that generates bone, cartilage, fat, and fibrous connective tissue. Also in the 1960s, scientists who were studying rats discovered two regions of the brain that contained dividing cells, which become nerve cells. Despite these reports, most scientists believed that new nerve cells could not be generated in the adult brain. It was not until the 1990s that scientists agreed that the adult brain does contain stem cells that are able to generate the brain's three major cell types—astrocytes and oligodendrocytes, which are non-neuronal cells, and neurons, or nerve cells.
