NerdKits Robotic Xylophone with Homemade Solenoids In this video tutorial we document how we built our robotic xylophone. We take this opportunity to not only describe how we built the xylophone from scratch, but we we also cover solenoids, a little bit of the theory of electromagnets, and even shift registers! As always, we explain the concepts behind the project as well as provide the source code so you can work these ideas into your own projects. For a complete description of this project, please visit our video tutorial page at: http://www.nerdkits.com/videos/robotic_xylophone/ Tags: LED, MOSFET, actuator, bar, bend, coil, electromagnet, electromagnetic, electromechanical, flex, inductive, load, magnet, microcontroller, music, neodymium, nerdkits, permanent, project, register, shift, solenoid, switch, vibrate, xylophone 1 Downloads - Last from: (Your Blog here!) |

Capacitive Touch Sensor: Learn Electronics with a Spooky Halloween Project Halloween is a great time to put your engineering prowess to work on a fun project. For this special Halloween project, we built a spooky candy bowl that lights up when an unsuspecting trick-or-treater reaches in. Using a microcontroller and some aluminum foil, we can build a capacitive proximity sensor that detects when a person's hand is nearby. For more details, explanations, and source code, please see: http://www.nerdkits.com/videos/halloween_capacitive_touch_sensor/ Tags: analog, atmega168, avr, capacitive, circuit, comparator, decay, dielectric, diy, electric, electronics, exponential, field, halloween, jack-o-lantern, jackolantern, learn, led, microcontroller, nerdkits, permittivity, project, proximity, pwm, rc, sensor, strength, timer, touch 1 Downloads - Last from: (Your Blog here!) |

Motors and Microcontrollers 101 Curious about connecting a motor to your microcontroller? In this NerdKits video tutorial, we explore motors from an electrical perspective, and see how back EMF, resistive, and inductive considerations lead to the design of a motor control circuit. Finally, we show two demos, one with a motor controlled with a toggled digital output, and the other with pulse width modulation (PWM) to adjust the speed in proportion to the temperature. For more details, source code, and more, see: http://www.nerdkits.com/videos/motors_and_microcontrollers_101/ Tags: 2n7000, atmega168, avr, back, breakdown, brushed, coil, control, current, dc, digital, electromagnetic, emf, inductance, microcontroller, modulation, mosfet, motor, n-channel, nerdkits, output, pulse, pwm, resistance, sensor, speed, stall, torque, transistor, triode, voltage, width, winding 1 Downloads - Last from: (Your Blog here!) |
