As the camera pans out, slowly, we see that West is surrounded by several young women in various stages of dress. Some of the women have horns. What appears at first to be a neo-classical painting then begins to move. As the figures in the "portrait" move slowly, we see West with what appears to be the sword of Damocles above his head. As the clip draws to a close, we see two sword-weilding warriors swooping in towards West's head. MTV says the "Power" video is "rife with religious references," and ''The Atlantic'' says the video almost appears to be an "elaborate, mesmerizing screensaver." West himself took to his Twitter account to describe "Power," saying "It's not a video .. It's a moving Painting!" "Power" was directed by artist Marco Brambilla. According to MTV, West approached Brambilla about a commissioned video after viewing the artist's video mural ''Civilization'' in New York City. Brambilla has said the piece depicts "an empire on the brink of collapse from its own excess, decadence and corruption." Brambilla has also said that the theme of "Power" is a "fall from grace," possibly a reference to West's hiatus since the 2009 Taylor Swift incident at the VMAs.
