The Four Greatest Women in Islam: Khadijah - Radi Allahu Anhu with Sheikh Junaid Kharsany Part Three in the Four Greatest Women in Islam series put on by the UCLA MSA. The notes the Sheikh mentioned: Khadija Al-Kubra Khadija was born 15 years before the year of the Elephant and was married twice before Muhammad [sallallahu alaihi wasallam]. She had two sons from her first marriage and a daughter,named Hind from her second union,hence Khadija was known by the name Umme Hind. She was also known as Thahira,the pure,and her children born before her marriage to the Prophet,accepted Islam and are known as Banu Thahira. Muhammad [alaihis salaam] began working for her in his mid twenties,and could have possibly been referred to her by Nafisa,a mutual friend. After observing his honest and righteous ways,she proposed marriage and they married,he 25 and she nearly 40. She bore him 2 sons,al-Qasim and Abdullah as well as his daughters who survived to adulthood,Zainab,Ruqaiya,Umme Kulthoom and Fathima tuz Zahra. She passed away on the 20th of Ramadaan,3 years before the Hijra age 65. Her passing is believed to be just after the family was released from exile in the Vale of Abu Talib,she was buried in the cemetery of Makkah,Jannatul Ma'la. The above is a brief historical view of her life. From a spiritual perspective,Khadija shared many moments in the life of the Messenger that defined the Call to Islam. Her personal position in his life,remained unsurpassed by anyone. The Revelation She was responsible for comforting him upon his return from the cave in the hours after the first revelation. She ultimately believed in him and is considered the first Muslim. Spending in the path of Allah In the initial days of Islam the primary financial burden borne by the Muslims was the freeing of convert Muslim slaves from their tyrant disbelieving masters. Entertaining guests who traveled for the purpose of inquiring about Islam was another expense. Khadija used her wealth generously in both causes. Salaah and Purification In many narrations that feature Jibreel coming to the Messenger and demonstrating prayer and purification,Khadija is in the incident. Though these narrations are not regarding the 5 daily prayer,they refer to prayer in general. "Jibreel came to the Prophet when the prayers were mandated and dug with his heel in a corner of the valley.......the Prophet took Khadija's hand and brought her to the spring and she did wudhu as Jibreel had done wudhu." The Everlasting Love of the Messenger The Prophet throughout his life continued to recollect his days with Khadija. Even objections raised by Aisha did not deter him from often mentioning her and expressing concern for her family and friends. The Dua of the Messenger Before her passing the Messenger gave her the glad tidings of a house of hollowed pearl in Jannah,in which there is no fatigue or clamor. The Prophetic Lineage The bloodline of the Prophet,the descendants of Hasan and Husein[ra] continue today. Their mother is Fathima and off course her mother is Khadija. No other line of the Prophet continues but this one.
