El halo de luz podría ser el resultado de un fenómeno climatológico debido a las condiciones del día, que por cierto era bastante lluvioso. Al respecto, Nick Pope, un ex investigador del Estado ruso especializado en OVNIs, aseguró que nunca había visto algo así, y se refirió al fenómeno como un verdadero misterio, que ya fue visto por más de 100 mil personas en el sitio de videos You Tube. Entre las hipótesis que expuso Pope, y que estaban siendo diseminadas por la red, se postulaba que era un fenómeno climático, una prueba del ejército ruso de un arma para alterar el clima, o la teoría de la amenaza extraterrestre, siempre latente. Los meteorólogos del Instituto ruso, en cambio, señalaron que podría ser un efecto óptico producido por tres frentes de tormenta que se cruzaron en el cielo moscovita, a través de los cuales el sol brilló desde el oeste. Aunque se ve impresionante, si se fijan bien se pueden ver los rayos saliendo de esa nube. Seguramente es que el sol se estaba poniendo cuando filmaron ese video, indicó un portavoz de la entidad.
