There are similar monasteries located in France and is also located in Vietnam and the USA www.plumvillage.org This short film is part of "The Journey" an unique documentary project that delves into environmental, socio-culture and economic issues, with a questioning mind. The focus of the project is to find and film inspiring ideas and projects over a wide spectrum of individuals and cultures, whilst examining our ability to reform our ideals, and our lifestyle in order to make positive changes for our planet and the human race. The Journeymen (a person whom travels in order to gain experience, skills and knowledge) go in search of these stories equipped only with minimal filming gear and personal possessions, they document their experience as they travel to global communities to observe, question and learn. It is an organic process that grows, evolves and takes its own direction. With no planned route nor destination, the journeymen believe they will connect with the right people and places at the right time to film, aid and guide them on. The project is currently filming and traveling through Europe. As the project travels short films are uploaded that can be viewed on this website. It is the long-term goal that this project will travel internationally to create a feature length film that will be released, to be viewed for free. The projects aims to benefit individuals, projects and communities by sharing knowledge, offering solutions and connecting people through film. In the two years since I posted this series I have received messages from many Christians stating that they are offended by the word "crusade" (a derivation of "cross") being associated with Islamic violence. I chose to use that word because The Crusades are something that most in the post-modern, politically correct West recognize as "evil." Many westerners are still not acquainted with the real meaning of words like "jihad," "shariah," "dhimmis", etc. Hopefully in 2010 more people DO understand the true meaning of those words. In short, I chose the word "crusades" to highlight that Christians were not the only ones who fought religious wars of conquest. My intention was not to insult Christianity. Christianity is a religion of peace that is sometimes used by extremists to justify violence. Islam is a religion of war. I pray for the day when these videos are no longer needed. Until that day I will keep the name "Islamic Crusades." The village was created Thich Nhat Hanh, a Vietnamese Buddhist monk, a poet, a scholar, and a peace activist. The Village invites visitors to come and practice Mindful Living with the Buddhist Monks and Sisters. There are similar monasteries located in France and is also located in Vietnam and the USA www.plumvillage.org This short film is part of "The Journey" an unique documentary project that delves into environmental, socio-culture and economic issues, with a questioning mind. The focus of the project is to find and film inspiring ideas and projects over a wide spectrum of individuals and cultures, whilst examining our ability to reform our ideals, and our lifestyle in order to make positive changes for our planet and the human race. The Journeymen (a person whom travels in order to gain experience, skills and knowledge) go in search of these stories equipped only with minimal filming gear and personal possessions, they document their experience as they travel to global communities to observe, question and learn. It is an organic process that grows, evolves and takes its own direction. With no planned route nor destination, the journeymen believe they will connect with the right people and places at the right time to film, aid and guide them on. The project is currently filming and traveling through Europe. As the project travels short films are uploaded that can be viewed on this website. It is the long-term goal that this project will travel internationally to create a feature length film that will be released, to be viewed for free. The projects aims to benefit individuals, projects and communities by sharing knowledge, offering solutions and connecting people through film. In the two years since I posted this series I have received messages from many Christians stating that they are offended by the word "crusade" (a derivation of "cross") being associated with Islamic violence. I chose to use that word because The Crusades are something that most in the post-modern, politically correct West recognize as "evil." Many westerners are still not acquainted with the real meaning of words like "jihad," "shariah," "dhimmis", etc. Hopefully in 2010 more people DO understand the true meaning of those words. In short, I chose the word "crusades" to highlight that Christians were not the only ones who fought religious wars of conquest. My intention was not to insult Christianity. Christianity is a religion of peace that is sometimes used by extremists to justify violence. Islam is a religion of war. I pray for the day when these videos are no longer needed. Until that day I will keep the name "Islamic Crusades." My goal was to remind a self-loathing West that our alleged sins are not to blame for the Islamic aggression we see today. A second means to the same conclusion is to expose situations in which Muslims are in conflict with non-Western peoples. These conflicts have nothing to do with the baggage of Christianity, the Crusades, European colonialism or any other canard that apologists cite to excuse Muslim violence against the West, yet they unfold in much the same way. Buddhist monks asked the regime to lift its ban on flying the traditional Buddhist flag, to grant Buddhism the same rights as Catholicism, to stop detaining Buddhists and to give Buddhist monks and nuns the right to practice and spread their religion.
