Esta transformación se suma a otros cambios hormonales del cerebro de la mujer a partir del día 15 cuando, implantado en el útero, el embrión se comunica con los tejidos de la madre. Estas explicaciones aparecen en el Informe científico sobre la comunicación materno-filial en el embarazo: células madre y vínculo de apego en el cerebro de la mujer. Este documento de la Universidad de Navarra es resultado del trabajo de expertos en Biología Molecular, Neurobiología, Neuroimagen, Psiquiatría, Sociología y Comunicación. La dirección ha corrido a cargo de Natalia López Moratalla, catedrática de Bioquímica. En 18 páginas se explican los momentos decisivos en el cerebro de la mujer embarazada. El documento ofrece una lectura divulgativa con referencias a los últimos avances publicados en Nature, Science, Cell, PNAS, TRENDS in Neurosciences, etc. Se incluyen nuevos conocimientos científicos que están revolucionando el paradigma de la Embriología, por ejemplo, al observarse la asimetría de la primera célula del embrión, el cigoto. Una división asimétrica el día 1 genera el eje dorsal-ventral en el embrión bicelular. Este eje, junto con el rostral-caudal (rostro-cola) y el derecho-izquierdo dan lugar a la forma corporal. En este sentido, guardamos memoria de nuestro primer día, tal y como se publicó en Nature. La Dra. López Moratalla explica que, aunque el embrión resulta extraño a la madre, la atmósfera de tolerancia inmunológica creada en el diálogo molecular hace que la mujer perciba al embrión como algo no propio y, sin embargo, sin señales de peligro que activarían las defensas. Esta tolerancia se inicia a petición del embrión, a través de una red de sustancias que liberan y desactivan todas las células maternas que generarían el natural rechazo hacia lo extraño: las células denominadas asesinas naturales (NK o natural killers); los linfocitos T, tóxicos para las células extrañas; y los linfocitos B, que producen los anticuerpos de rechazo. Células del feto en órganos de la madre Pulsar sobre la imagen para ampliar el infográfico. Otra novedad es el denominado microquimerismo, por el que los órganos de la madre contienen células procedentes del feto que ha gestado (de 2 a 6 células por mililitro). Estas células tienen gran capacidad para regenerar y rejuvenecer el cuerpo de la mujer. Se han encontrado células de feto varón convertidas en cardiomiocitos de la madre. Técnicamente, es fácil advertir este fenómeno al identificar en la mujer el cromosoma Y, exclusivo del varón. Además, existen datos de la participación de esas células, por ejemplo, en la reparación del corazón de madres con cardiopatías. El informe de la Universidad de Navarra resume avances científicos relevantes, desconocidos para muchos investigadores no especializados y para la ciudadanía.
