Big Ideas: Don't get any - Radiohead cover by James Houston Video by James Houston jim@1030.co.uk Digg this at: http://digg.com/music/Radiohead_s_Nude_played_by_old_computer_parts Radiohead held an online contest to remix "Nude" from their album - "In Rainbows" This was quite a difficult task for everybody that entered, as Nude is in 6/8 timing, and 63bpm. Most music that's played in clubs is around 120bpm and usually 4/4 timing. It's pretty difficult to seamlessly mix a waltz beat into a DJ set. This resulted in lots of generic entries consisting of a typical 4/4 beat, but with arbitrary clips from "Nude" thrown in so that they qualified for the contest. Thom Yorke joked at the ridiculousness of it in an interview for NPR radio, hinting that they set the competition to find out how people would approach such a challenging task. I decided to take the piss a bit, as the contest seemed to be in that spirit. Based on the lyric (and alternate title) "Big Ideas: Don't get any" I grouped together a collection of old redundant hardware, and placed them in a situation where they're trying their best to do something that they're not exactly designed to do, and not quite getting there. It doesn't sound great, as it's not supposed to. LED Pong Clock LED Pong Clock. This project uses the classic video game pong to tell the time. The 2 players are controlled automatically to win / lose so their scores show the hours and minutes.. The clock has a few other modes, like showing the time written in words. You can see how to make one here: http://123led.wordpress.com/about/ Geeky details: the LED panels are from Sure Electronics (Model 2416). They are driven by an Arduino, and a battery backed DS1307 clock chip keeps time. I got all the bits on eBay for about £60. Articolo 18 come carta igienica "Il posto fisso è monotono": così il MASSONE Monti a Matrix Ieri sera ospite di Matrix su Canale 5, il MASSONE Monti, intervistato da Alessio Vinci, dopo aver già presenziato all'edizione delle 20 del Tg5, dove ha rilasciato alcune dichiarazioni sullo spread e secondo cui "scenderà ancora", negli studi di Matrix ha raccontato gli obiettivi del governo sul tema di lavoro: "I ragazzi dovranno cambiare spesso lavoro. Diciamolo, il posto fisso è monotono". Il premier ha affrontato la questione della riforma del lavoro e dell'articolo 18 e ha espresso il suo pensiero sul posto fisso: "I giovani si abituino all'idea di non avere più il posto fisso a vita. Che monotonia. E' bello cambiare e accettare delle sfide. E poi: "L'art.18 non è un tabù e può essere pernicioso per lo sviluppo dell'Italia e il futuro dei giovani in un certo contesto ma può essere abbastanza accettabile in un altro contesto. Serve una modifica del sistema di flessibilità in entrata e in uscita ed è essenziale una riforma degli ammortizzatori che tuteli il singolo lavoratore quando deve cambiare lavoro, senza legare la tutela del lavoratore a un posto di lavoro che diventa obsoleto". L'affermazione di Monti sulla monotonia del posto fisso ha però scatenato diverse polemiche. Si potrebbe anche essere d'accordo con Monti su questo punto, se, però, davvero prima fossero garantiti ammortizzatori sociali reali per chi perde posti di lavoro come in Danimarca, Norvegia, Usa, UK, dov'è istituito il salario minimo per chi non ha lavoro e fino a quando non lo riprende. Il lavoro deve essere riformato da zero soprattutto per i giovani e solo una volta concluso questo processo di rinnovamento si potrà pensare al fatto che il posto fisso sia una monotonia. TICK (After Effects Time Freeze / Stop) This film was inspired by the old TV series Bernards Watch. Long story short, the character finds a magical stopwatch that can freeze time.
