Las condiciones iniciales que se utilizan aquí han sido extraídas del ejemplo de Luyben. Son valores crecientes distribuidos de una forma aproximada entre 0 y 1, que nos da una idea de que la columna estuvo funcionando por algún tiempo antes de la simulación y por tanto tenía concentraciones coherentes con ello en cada plato; que en el plato 10 existía igual concentración que en la mezcla entrante; y que destilados y sedimentos habían alcanzado su respectivo valor de setpoint, por lo que el sistema tenía ya un comportamiento estable. Es al inicio de esta simulación que sucede una perturbación repentina (un escalón) y la mezcla entrante incrementa su concentración de 0.48 a 0.55 Es posible probar con valores iniciales y perturbaciones distintas; incluso suponer una situación en que la mezcla ingresa por vez primera a la columna y rebalsa los platos inferiores con la misma concentración, asignando valores coherentes con ello a las demás variables para que el modelo matemático se siga cumpliendo.
