Do Bigha Zamin (meaning "two acres of land") is 1953 Bollywood film, directed by Bengali film director Bimal Roy and star Balraj Sahni and Nirupa Roy in lead roles. The film is known for its socialist theme, and is an important film in the early parallel cinema of India and is rightly considered a trend setter.] Like most of movies by Bimal Roy, art and commercial cinema are merged to create a movie that is still looked upon as a benchmark and paved way for future cinema makers in the Indian neo-realist movement[2] and the Indian New Wave, which began in the 1950s. Di Bigha Zameen was the first film to win the Filmfare Best Movie Award and the first Indian film to win the International Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2005, Indiatimes Movies ranked the movie amongst the Top 25 Must See Bollywood Films. The Title Do bhigha jamin ;- The movie got the name from a famous poem by Rabindranath Tagore, called "Dui Bigha Jomi". In the name of the movie "Two Bigha of Land" or Two Acres of Land, Bigha or Acre is a unit of measuring land. Bigha varies from state to state. In Bengal, where the movie is based, 3 bigha is one acre (4,000 m²). Therefore, Shambhu owns only 2,700 m². Story Plot The story revolves around a farmer, Shambhu (Balraj Sahni), who has been hit badly by a famine in Bengal. The real reason of his sorrow is that the Zamindar (land owner) wants to acquire his land on the pretext that Shambhu had taken some loan from him. Shambhu has to pay back the landlord and hence moves to the city to look for some other source of money. The most famous scene from the movie is when Shambhu pushes himself to the limit pulling a rickshaw. The rider on the rickshaw offers Shambhu more money to pull faster because he is chasing (probably) his girlfriend who is in another carriage. Shambhu can not resist the temptation, and he keeps smiling in anticipation of getting more money. However, his wealthy customer is not worried the least about the lower class' plight. In this race, rickshaw loses a wheel and Shambhu is injured. However, through all these hardships Shambhu does not lose his righteousness, which is the moral of the movie. Shambhu's son steals money to help his father, only to be reproached by his father later. Shambhu's morality is the only thing that remains his own till the end. The movie ends with Shambhu returning to his village, only to see his land sold and a factory being constructed over it. dil hum hum kare ghabraye .. film rudali Song ;dil hum hum kare ghabraaye...both version female &male together with lyrics and photos Music Director: Bhupen Hazarika.. A Living Legend Lyrics: Gulzar Singer : Lata Mangeshkar .Bhupen Hazarika Cast: Raj Babbar, Dimple Kapadia, Raakhee Director: Kalpana Lazmi Producer: Ravi Gupta, Ravi Malik Year: 1993 Genre: story of professional mourners( Rudaali) Rudaali is a 1993 Hindi film directed by the Feminist Indian director Kalpana Lajmi, based on the short story written by famous Bengali litterateur Mahasweta Devi. The title is a reference to a custom in certain areas of Rajasthan where women of a lower caste are hired as professional mourners upon the death of upper-caste males. These women are referred to as a 'rudaali' (roo-dah-lee),literally translated as 'female weeper' or "Weeping Woman" Their job is to publicly express grief of family members who are not permitted to display emotion due to social status Story of Movie Rudaali:- The film is set in a small village in Rajasthan, India. It tells the story of a woman named Shanichari, who was abandoned by her mother shortly after her father's death. Bad fortune follows as she marries an alcoholic, who leaves her with little hope of a brighter future for herself and her mentally-retarded son. Throughout Shanichari's lifetime of misfortune she has never cried. This creates great difficulty once she is called to become a rudaali until Bhinkni, an experienced mourner, enters her life. Shanichari and the local landlord's son fall in love with each other, but Shanichari is reluctant to ask the rich lover for money as she does not want to lower her love even for the sake of getting out of poverty and misery. But Shanichari is simply led to more misery that will surely bring her to tears. Many viewers commented upon the fact that for a movie based in a semi-arid desert, it had more scenes of rain-fall { which is a common backdrop for song-&-dance sequences in Bollywood } than was geographically or metereologically plausible. Awards and honors:- Dimple Kapadia won a National Film Award for her role of Shanichari in the film. The film also features Raakhee, Raj Babbar and Amjad Khan in one of his last films. Amjad Khan had died before the film's release and the film is dedicated to him at the beginning of the film's credits Soundtrack :- The film has music by Bhupen Hazarika - one of his few forays of this classical musician into providing soundtracks for Bollywood...Wikipedia ABOUT DR. bichhde sabhi bari bari ..rafi-guru dutt-s d burman-kagaz ke phool Song-Dekhi Zamane Ki Yaari 'बिछडे सभी बारी बारी' , Singer - Mohammad Rafi Lyrics-Kaifi Azmi ,Music- S.D. Burman Movie-Kaagaz Ke Phool, (Hindi: कागज़ के फूल; English: Paper Flowers), is a 1959 classic Hindi film produced and directed by Guru Dutt, who also played the lead role in the film. The film was a box office disaster of its time but was later resurrected as a world cinema cult classic in the 1980s. The film's music was composed by S. D. Burman and the notable lyrics were written by Kaifi Azmi, giving hits like Waqt ne Kiya Kya Haseen Situm, sung by Geeta Dutt. In the 2002 Sight & Sound critics' and directors' poll, Kaagaz Ke Phool was ranked at #160 among the greatest films of all time.[1] Motivated by the success of Pyaasa, Guru Dutt embarked on the creation of yet another of his socially challenging movie, Kaagaz Ke Phool. The theme and tone on this movie were ages ahead of the Indian audience of the 50s who were used to simpler plots and storylines. The underlying tones of the film were complex and story was controversial for the time. Considered one of Guru Dutt's finest film by many, Kaagaz Ke Phool was a commercial disaster when it was first released. At the film's premiere, Dr Rajendra Prasad, then President of India and invited chief guest, walked out of the cinema hall deeply offended[citation needed]. Audiences in Delhi's Regal cinema threw stones at the screen during the screening. Reactions like these deeply affected the sensitive and introverted Dutt[2] Guru Dutt himself admitted in an interview to Filmfare in 1963, " It was good in patches. It was too slow and it went over the head of audiences." Many claim that the film is semi-autobiographical of Guru Dutt and that he portrayed his angst in the movie. At the time of production of the film, Guru Dutt's marriage to Geeta Dutt was under strain due to his liking for Waheeda Rehman. This was openly known causing Guru Dutt's personal life to resemble that of the protagonist in the movie. However, the forecast of his own (Guru Dutt's) death, to parallel the sad and imminent death of the protagonist in the film, is debatable. Another explanation for the inspiration is Guru Dutt's association with Gyan Mukherjee, the famous 1940s director whose Qismet (1941) had made him into a household name. The life and subsequent failures of Mukherjee, whom Guru Dutt had joined in 1950, influenced him deeply. Many think that Kaghaz ke Phool was based on Gyan Mukherjee's life and failures,[5] as Guru Dutt's previous film Pyaasa had been dedicated to him. Awards- Filmfare Best Cinematographer Award - V.K.
