El primero es que las innovaciones que se producen en la empresa son de tipo incremental. Cuando la empresa se dedica sólo a mejorar lo que hace con pequeñas prestaciones y pequeñas mejoras que pretenden servir mejor a los clientes que ya tienen, eso se llama innovación incremental. Los proyectos de disrupción por definición necesitan unas claves distintas, necesitan ser probados y si crecen normalmente suelen ser de forma exponencial. Otro de los motivos es que no se asignan fondos a proyectos disruptivos a mitad de año, la posibilidad de abrir un nuevo mercado ha llegado demasiado tarde y se espera a un nuevo año. Cuando esa es la respuesta de la empresa, se produce otra síntoma de bloqueo. Otro motivo es que se premia más las ideas mediocres que las ideas con potencial a largo plazo. Esas ideas mediocres encajan bien con el actual modelo de la empresa. Cuando algo tiene potencial disruptivo normalmente se aparta, la empresa se siente escéptica ya que le exige cambiar la forma de trabajar. Otro motivo de bloqueo es el síndrome de siempre lo hemos hecho así. Cuando alguien plantea un proyecto que exige cambiar algo dentro de la empresa y la respuesta es esta, es un claro ejemplo de bloqueo de la innovación. También sucede en empresas que los fracasos se penalizan públicamente. Cuando alguien intentó hacer algo distinto y no funcionó, es fácil hacer un comentario que haga que se persona no vuelva a proponer otra idea y así lo hará el resto de la empresa. Otra idea, es que los directores a veces no tienen demasiado compromiso con la innovación. Muchas buenas ideas se pierden porque no hay un sistema para recogerlas. Las ideas prometedoras pueden venir de cualquier parte.
