[View \| Download]	Popsicle Commercial, The colors, Duke, the colors! The first commercial was simple. Absolutely nothing to it. The second one, however... That wig weighed 12 lbs. It was bolted to a rafter system in a false ceiling on the set and glued to my real hair. At some point, the director informally wrapped for lunch and forgot I was standing there still. The whole crew had, like, an hour lunch without me! That bald cap was made specifically for me from a plaster cast of my head. It would have fit perfectly, if it weren't for all my damn hair. I offered to shave it, but they refused. I don't know why. I started high school pretty soon after and I was bald by my second year anyway. The third commercial was the most involved. The revolving was done with a makeshift turntable platform. We moved it very slowly and they sped it up post-production. If you slow the clip down, you can see all the stupid faces I'm making. That was fun. The last bit required I wear a harness to bolt myself to the set's ceiling corner. As I bent over, the stiff harness pressed against my diaphragm, making it extremely difficult to breathe. We got me up there by bolting in my left shoe first and then hoisting me up using a cable system. It was so tight, and there was nothing supporting my upper body, so the whole time I was flexing my abs, trying to keep as close to the walls as possible, trying to breathe, and flail my arms about. I kind of collapsed a bit as soon as the director yelled "cut." You can see how exhaused I am in the very last second. Making these commercials was a trip. It took about three days for me altogether, including the voice-over stuff. Yeah, that "popsicle zone" voice is me, too, though I never got credit for it. I thought about getting back into acting, but you could tell I had just started puberty. The onslaught of zits after these commercials didn't allow me the luxury. A suicide bomber getting caught at the Shchem (Nablus, Hawara) checkpoint. Published material notes the boy's full name to be Hussam Bilal Abdo. He was, according to his own family (see: 'The Making of a Martyr'), unpopular in class and wanted to be popular so the best way is to become a "martyr" hero and an older friend of his had direct connection with the bomb makers so he agreed to take him to them and they offered him 100 Israeli Shekels for doing the deed (about 24 US Dollars at the time of the event). Reports from the scene are that he started running towards the checkpoint and the soldiers noticed and ordered him to stop put and he did and was caught. He's currently in Israeli jail, even more brainwashed for "martyrdom" than before since his jail mates are all coming from the same retarded "Muqawama" (a.k.a. popular resistance / eternal conflict enhancement) ideology. A more heart-breaking story (from 'Cult of the Suicide Bomber'), is that of Wafa Al-Biss, who got severely burned in her kitchen by a gas explosion (same and had her life saved in an Israeli hospital that treated her. Later, she abused her pass privilege to try and bring a bomb over, thinking of blowing herself up in the very hospital that saved her life and treated her like everyone else (she repeated this in a documentary, btw). Look them up... stop terrorism. p.s. both parents of the boy were alive at the time and his mother, Tamam, was quoted saying: "If he were over 18, I might even encourage him to do it." The round-faced soprano with the bowl haircut never imagined his voice would one day transform him into an international sensation. But now, he is being compared to Britain's Susan Boyle, the plain-looking 48-year-old who shot to stardom after singing "I Dreamed a Dream" on "Britain's Got Talent." Lin's Whitney Houston-like rendition of "I Will Always Love You" on Taiwan's "Avenue to Stardom" talent show last Friday has already racked up some 1.3 million views on YouTube, and the number is climbing fast. For the 24-year-old with the disparaging nickname of "Little Fatty," the event has been a life-changer. "I now have more confidence in pursuing a singing career," Lin told The Associated Press in a telephone interview. "You don't have to be a good-looking man or woman to succeed. Just be yourself and try your best." Lin said he had long suffered from a lack of self-confidence because of his plain looks and rotund figure. "Being fat draws a lot of mockery in our society," he said. To cope with the pain of his exclusion, he locked himself in his room and sang along with the songs of Celine Dion and Mariah Carey. But the artist who really grabbed him was Houston — particularly the song "I Will Always Love You," from the soundtrack to the 1992 film "The Bodyguard." [View \| Download]	Popsicle Commercial, The colors, Duke, the colors! The first commercial was simple. Absolutely nothing to it. The second one, however... That wig weighed 12 lbs. It was bolted to a rafter system in a false ceiling on the set and glued to my real hair. At some point, the director informally wrapped for lunch and forgot I was standing there still. The whole crew had, like, an hour lunch without me! That bald cap was made specifically for me from a plaster cast of my head. It would have fit perfectly, if it weren't for all my damn hair. I offered to shave it, but they refused. I don't know why. I started high school pretty soon after and I was bald by my second year anyway. The third commercial was the most involved. The revolving was done with a makeshift turntable platform. We moved it very slowly and they sped it up post-production. If you slow the clip down, you can see all the stupid faces I'm making. That was fun. The last bit required I wear a harness to bolt myself to the set's ceiling corner. As I bent over, the stiff harness pressed against my diaphragm, making it extremely difficult to breathe. We got me up there by bolting in my left shoe first and then hoisting me up using a cable system. It was so tight, and there was nothing supporting my upper body, so the whole time I was flexing my abs, trying to keep as close to the walls as possible, trying to breathe, and flail my arms about. I kind of collapsed a bit as soon as the director yelled "cut." You can see how exhaused I am in the very last second. Making these commercials was a trip. It took about three days for me altogether, including the voice-over stuff. Yeah, that "popsicle zone" voice is me, too, though I never got credit for it. I thought about getting back into acting, but you could tell I had just started puberty. The onslaught of zits after these commercials didn't allow me the luxury. A suicide bomber getting caught at the Shchem (Nablus, Hawara) checkpoint. Published material notes the boy's full name to be Hussam Bilal Abdo. He was, according to his own family (see: 'The Making of a Martyr'), unpopular in class and wanted to be popular so the best way is to become a "martyr" hero and an older friend of his had direct connection with the bomb makers so he agreed to take him to them and they offered him 100 Israeli Shekels for doing the deed (about 24 US Dollars at the time of the event). Reports from the scene are that he started running towards the checkpoint and the soldiers noticed and ordered him to stop put and he did and was caught. He's currently in Israeli jail, even more brainwashed for "martyrdom" than before since his jail mates are all coming from the same retarded "Muqawama" (a.k.a. popular resistance / eternal conflict enhancement) ideology. A more heart-breaking story (from 'Cult of the Suicide Bomber'), is that of Wafa Al-Biss, who got severely burned in her kitchen by a gas explosion (same and had her life saved in an Israeli hospital that treated her. Later, she abused her pass privilege to try and bring a bomb over, thinking of blowing herself up in the very hospital that saved her life and treated her like everyone else (she repeated this in a documentary, btw). Look them up... stop terrorism. p.s. both parents of the boy were alive at the time and his mother, Tamam, was quoted saying: "If he were over 18, I might even encourage him to do it." The round-faced soprano with the bowl haircut never imagined his voice would one day transform him into an international sensation. But now, he is being compared to Britain's Susan Boyle, the plain-looking 48-year-old who shot to stardom after singing "I Dreamed a Dream" on "Britain's Got Talent." Lin's Whitney Houston-like rendition of "I Will Always Love You" on Taiwan's "Avenue to Stardom" talent show last Friday has already racked up some 1.3 million views on YouTube, and the number is climbing fast. For the 24-year-old with the disparaging nickname of "Little Fatty," the event has been a life-changer. "I now have more confidence in pursuing a singing career," Lin told The Associated Press in a telephone interview. "You don't have to be a good-looking man or woman to succeed. Just be yourself and try your best." Lin said he had long suffered from a lack of self-confidence because of his plain looks and rotund figure. "Being fat draws a lot of mockery in our society," he said. To cope with the pain of his exclusion, he locked himself in his room and sang along with the songs of Celine Dion and Mariah Carey. But the artist who really grabbed him was Houston — particularly the song "I Will Always Love You," from the soundtrack to the 1992 film "The Bodyguard." "I played it again and again even though my parents couldn't stand it any more and asked me to stop," Lin said. Lin has had a bumpy start to stardom. After graduating from college last year, he failed to make much of an impression on another Taiwanese talent show, where judges criticized both his looks and his high-pitched voice. "One said I should instead pursue the career of a comedian, and another questioned whether it was right for a man to sing soprano," he said. Now all that is behind him. "(The show) has reinvigorated me," he said. Still, Lin said, he is doing his best not to let his new found fame go to his head.
