Kirtichakra- Indian NSG film - Mohanlal -11 Kirthichakra is a 2006 Malayalam war film directed by debutant Major Ravi, and starring Mohanlal and Jeeva. The film is based on true events related to militancy in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. The film was released on August 7, 2006 worldwide. The film was dubbed into Tamil as Aran. The title is derived from the Indian gallantry award, Kirti Chakra. The film was a critical and commercial success. Kirtichakra is one of the few films to depict the operation style of the National Security Guards. Major Mahadevan (Mohanlal) is an officer deputed to the National Security Guards (NSG), and has been assigned on counter terrorism activities in Kashmir and commands an elite group of NSG commandos. He calls back his buddy pair Havildar Jaikumar (Jeeva) from his honeymoon leave because he had received an information about major activities of the militants and he felt Jaikumar is needed for the team. The commandos raid a mosque in civilian dress and seize a big collection of arms and explosives. Later during an operation focused on some cottages near the Dal Lake, a commando in the team is killed and an outraged Jaikumar shoots down a captured terrorist who challenges the commandos. A human rights activist (Shwetha Menon) learns about this and threatens to file a complaint with the government. She later understands the situation and the sincerity of the commandos and decides not to proceed with the complaint. Meanwhile a group of terrorists from Afghanistan and Pakistan conspire to hit the Hazratbal Shrine with a missile, and they thinks this will create unrest in the region and the Indian army will be blamed for this. They highjack a house which offers good vantage point to the shrine and plants the missile there. Some of them rapes a girl in the house and shoots a person who protests. A military patrolling vehicle hears the gunshot and as they approach the house, they are fired upon. The patrolling team intimates the NSG, and Mahadevan and his team immediately joins the battle. After a long operation, the team kills the terrorists, frees the civilian hostages and disarms the missile. But a civilian informs that the chief of the terrorists is not to be seen among the corpses, and the commandos start a combing operation in the house. They locate the terrorist and Mahadevan recognises the man has the same person who had killed his wife and daughter. The terrorist is killed but he manages to shoot at Mahadevan. Mahadevan is covered by Jaikumar who gets hit by the bullet and dies. 30th April - Youm-e-Shuhada Ceremony at Yadgar-e-Shuhada GHQ (30 April,2010) - Pakistan Army special programme was held at General Headquarters (GHQ) in connection with Martyrs Day (Youm-e-Shuhada) to tribute the sacrifices of martyrs of the Pakistan Armed Forces it rendered while protecting the country and fighting terrorism. Chief of the Army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani laid a floral wreath at the site of Yadgar Shuhada (monument of martyrs). Speaking on the occasion, General Kayani paid rich tributes to officers and jawans of Pakistan Army who embraced shahadat (martyrdom) in the continuing war on terror. He said that Youm-e-Shuhada will be commemorated on April 30 every year. The function was attended by Defence Minister Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhatar, Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman, Naval Chief Admiral Noman Bashir, Interior Minister Rehman Malik, Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira, serving and retired army officials and families of martyrs. Pakistan Army Contingent stood first in internationally recognized military exercise Exercise Cambrian Patrol is a prestigious British Army exercise which is organized annually in United Kingdom in Wales. Apart from teams from British Army, teams from military establishments all over the world are also invited to participate. It is a three days exercise in which the teams, comprising eight members, are required to infiltrate into simulated enemy lines and perform multiple tasks including obstacle crossing, close target reconnaissance and exfiltrate successfully in real time environments. For Year - 2010, a total of 86 teams participated in the exercise, including 70 British and 16 teams from other countries of the world including USA, Canada, Germany, France and India etc. Rawalpindi Corps team represented Pakistan Army in Exercise Cambrian Patrol - 2010, held from 11-13 October 2010 and by the Grace of Allah, the team showed an excellent performance by winning a Gold Medal in the event, which is a big honour not only for Army but for the country as a whole. Team returned to Pakistan yesterday. Commander Rawalpindi Corps and Inspector General Training and Evaluation (IGT&E) appreciated the efforts of the team during meeting held with team members. The "Team Manager" conveyed the feelings of all participating teams and Command echelons of United Kingdom Army, who appreciated the training standards of Pakistan Army and termed it capable of accomplishing its mission in the most trying circumstances. The competition consists of teams of 8 men carrying up to 55 kilos each across some of the most unforgiving terrain. There have been account of teams trudging through bog land up to their waist for 4 hours only to cover 1.5 km. It's a test of leadership, self discipline, courage and determination. The exercise usually starts with teams arriving at a Rendezvous before having their equipment checked to make sure they have everything required. Missing equipment will be replaced by dead weight and will mean points will be deducted. From there the team leader will be taken to orders while the rest of the team set up a quick hide, start their battle prep and prepare to receive orders i.e. prepare a model of the ground which will be covered during the patrol. Nation salutes this contingent of Pakistan Army which has won a Gold medal for Pakistan. Border Security Force ( BSF ) - Duty unto Death With a strength of 240,000 personnel in 186 battalions, including women battalions, BSF is one of the world's largest border patrol forces. Till 1965 India's borders with Pakistan were manned by the State Armed Police Battallion. Pakistan attacked Sardar Post, Chhar Bet and Beria Bet on 9 April, 1965 in Kutch. This exposed the inadequacy of the State Armed Police to cope with armed aggression due to which the Government of India felt the need for a specialized centrally controlled Border Security Force, which would be armed and trained to man the International Border with Pakistan. As a result of the recommendations of the Committee of Secretaries, the Border Security Force came into existence on 01 Dec 1965, and Shri K F Rustamji was the first chief and founding father. The tasks of the BSF are divided as follows: (a) Peace time: - Promote a sense of security among the people living in the border areas. - Prevent trans border crimes, unauthorized entry into or exit from the territory of India. - Prevent smuggling and any other illegal activity. In the last few years the BSF has, in addition to their duties, been deployed for counter insurgency and internal security duties (b) War Time: Holding ground in less threatened sectors. Protection of vital installations. Assistance in control of refugees. Anti-infiltration duties in specified areas. ETHOS: The BSF, in its 41 years of existence, has emerged as an elite force of the country having excelled with distinction in the 1971 war with Pakistan. Its ethos is "Any task, any time, any where" and the BSF has given blood and sweat to execute its motto "Duty Unto Death". During the Kargil conflict in May-July 1999, the BSF remained on the heights of the mountains and defended the integrity of the country with all the might at its command in unison with the Army. First Squadron of JF-17 Thunder Inducted in Pakistan Air Force - Long Live Pakistan Another major milestone was achieved when the first Squadron of JF-17 Thunder formally joined fighter aircraft fleet of Pakistan Air Force on Thursday. A ceremony for the formal induction of JF-17 Thunder aircraft was held at one of the PAF's operational bases. Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force was the chief guest on the occasion. The Chief of the Air Staff while addressing the Airmen, congratulated the nation and the PAF personnel on the momentous occasion. "The formal induction of JF-17 aircraft in the PAF is in line with our resolve to face all challenges with poise and self- confidence. The PAF has invested in the force multipliers like the Air-to-Air refuellers, UAVs and AEW&C aircraft to enhance our capacity and capability to undertake complex operations," he said. "These new state-of-the-art inductions make it imperative that we train hard and prepare well to induct and integrate the new systems professionally and safely. The chievements of PAF leave no doubt in my mind that we are immensely capable and, as a team, can set and achieve still higher standards". "We are a peaceful nation with no aggressive designs and want to maintain peace with honour in our region. We are inducting new systems to keep pace with technology and maintain credible conventional balance of force, without which peace cannot be ensured in South Asia," the Air Chief said. He said that the JF-17 would be put through its paces in the forthcoming Exercise Hi-Mark 2010. The `JF-17 Thunder' has the capability to undertake entire spectrum of offensive as well as defensive missions. By joining the elite ranks of PAF, the JF-17 would not only enhance the combat readiness of PAF but also form its back-bone in future. The ceremony culminated when an A-5-III fighter led three JF-17 Thunder aircraft in a flypast following which a single JF-17 performed aerobatics over the venue.
