En la capital de Ecuador, última etapa de la gira del mandatario iraní por América Latina, éste rechazó que Irán tenga intenciones de construir bombas atómicas y explicó que la negativa a la comunidad internacional en relación con el uranio enriquecido y el resguardo de la nueva planta, enterrada en una montaña, obedece sólo al resguardo de la salud de los iraníes. "Las nuevas instalaciones deben contar con altas medidas de seguridad, para la salud del pueblo, no es para construir bombas, no necesitamos bombas, ¿para qué? A quienes les falta cultura y civilización construyen bombas atómicas, no tienen lógica. Nosotros nunca hemos pretendido dominar otros lugares del mundo". Descartó que pudiera iniciarse una guerra entre EU e Irán debido a los constantes enfrentamientos de discurso sobre el tema nuclear, "va a haber algunas personas razonables en EU para impedir estas locuras, por supuesto que el pueblo norteamericano es un pueblo muy bueno, mantenemos amistades y no tenemos ningún tipo de problemas. La historia nos indica que quienes han tenido la intención de atacar a este pueblo no han podido, han sido arrepentidos de lo que han hecho". Ahmadinejad aseguró que México ha sido también víctima de la política imperialista estadounidense, que ha recibido golpes muy duros, lamentó que el desarrollo mexicano dependa de los norteamericanos, "incluso Estados Unidos le ha arrebatado territorio a México", y destacó que el nuestro es un país con recursos naturales, pero que no ha logrado avanzar. Habló sobre los presuntos vínculos, que fueron señalados por Estados Unidos, entre la inteligencia iraní e integrantes de cárteles del narcotráfico en México. "¿Realmente el pueblo iraní es así, está buscando el terrorismo y el narcotráfico? Hemos perdido compatriotas por el terrorismo, si quisiéramos contactar con el narcotráfico no hubiéramos perdido cientos de seres queridos, hemos gastado mucho dinero en el combate al narcotráfico; en esta lógica se puede acusar a todos, cuando no hace falta ningún tipo de documentos se puede acusar a todos, lamentamos este tipo de actitudes. Tras sus declaraciones sobre que Israel debería desaparecer y su negativa en relación a la existencia del Holocausto, Ahmadinejad expresó: "Para que desaparezca Israel no hacen falta bombas atómicas, ya están destruidos y desaparecidos, un Estado que se ha fundado con base en matanzas está desaparecido; el tema del Holocausto está claro, dicen que es una realidad histórica".
