The Infamous Teepee Ad (or) "I Can Sell Any Thing!" By ratuse I think that redundancy is starting to quickly become my middle name. Oh well. I was told by several people that I needed to post this Ad I made for the Second Episode of Channel Undertow as a stand-alone. So, since I'm still in the middle of another video project that's still not quite ready, I figured sure why not. I'm a big fan of the all American homogenized, plastic, cheese ball late night infomercial. Not so much the sophisticated breakthrough product adverts of today mind you. I'm talking about the good ol' groundbreaking, "we'll find you a use for this product if it kills us" attitude of the late 80's/early 90's when these things were, in my opinion, at their absolute prime! I was inspired to put this one together after seeing the many benefits of teepees while at a low budget Pow Wow (aka a bunch of white guys selling chinese made dreamcatchers for too muchy money) in the Scarborough Community Service Memorial Park this last summer. Its kind of mind blowing just how many Caucasian men and women seem convinced that they are Native Americans. This, having been said, I felt that it brought up the question of "What if corporate sales people decided to market this trend for what it was? Selling the lifestyle of the Plains Indians to the naive white man in a language he or she would understand." Clearly I read too much into these kinds of concepts, and I should really stop... Nahhh, I have way too much fun making this crap. Hurry hurry hurry step right up and get your very own bonafide insulated corrugated segregated teepee! TEEPEE TEEPEE TEEPEE!! Who wants a Teepee?! Low in cost, high in mobile home efficiency, good for the environment, and lots of fun for the kids! Bring a friend! Teepees are great for two or three!! Accept no substitute! If there is any thing that late night infomercials have taught me, its that you can sell a man's own chest hair back to him, just as long as the monthly payments are low and you offer free trimmings if he calls in the next ten minutes.
