A guard with a scarf obstructs our view with his body. In all likelihood, Saddam was to fall close to that scaffolding. Since this is the opening scene of the video, it may be more "formal" than it seems. It is possible that the masked guard was carefully situated there, to block our view of "temporary" scaffolding under the gallows, before the camera started recording. Some viewers have asked, "what about the video of Saddam dead with a hole in his neck?" Who was buried in Tikrit? We know Saddam had a double or look-alike. But what happened to him after he sank to the scaffolding will remain a mystery of this botched execution.
