El padre se sintió mal por aquel hijo, su esposa había muerto, entonces decidió seguir adelante con su vida y la de su hijo, trató de enseñarle a su hijo que todo se puede si se tiene fe en Dios y voluntad. El resultado es que este niño enfermo creció y se graduó, desarrolló un sistema de comunicación muy diferente que el de otros niños, y a competido en las carreras de obstáculos mas difíciles del mundo, en las cuales tiene q nadar ciertos kilometros, correr en bicicleta otros kilometros y terminar la competencia corriendo... Dick y Rick Hoyt son un equipo padre e hijo de Massachusetts, que compiten juntos en carreras de maratón y triatlón, entre otras increíbles actividades como la escalada de montañas. Durante los últimos veinte cinco años Dick (65), ha llevado a su hijo por todo el país y por cientos de líneas de meta. Cuando Dick corre, Rick es empujado en una silla de ruedas por su padre. Cuando Dick pedalea, Rick está en una silla que se adapta a la parte delantera de la bicicleta. Cuando Dick nada, Rick está en una pequeño barco, pesado y firmemente estabilizado y va tirado por Dick. En 1977 Rick le dijo a su padre que quería participar en una carrera de cinco millas en beneficio por unos jugadores locales de lacrosse que quedaron paralizados en un accidente. Dick acordó empujar a Rick en su silla de ruedas. Ellos terminaron penultimos, pero en su opinión habian logrado un triunfo. En un principio nadie se acercaba a mí. Sin embargo, después de algunas carreras algunos atletas llegaron alrededor y comenzaron a hablar conmigo ... " Juntos, los Hoyt no sólo compiten en eventos deportivos, sino que también van en giras de motivación, también llevan acabo difusión de la marca Hoyt de inspiración a todo tipo de públicos, deportivos y no deportivos, en todo el país. When Dick cycles, Rick is in the seat-pod from his wheelchair, attached to the front of the bike. When Dick swims, Rick is in a small but heavy, firmly stabilized boat being pulled by Dick. In 1977 Rick told his father he wanted to participate in a five-mile benefit run for a local lacrosse player who had been paralyzed in an accident. Dick agreed to push Rick in his wheelchair. They finished next to last, but they felt they had achieved a triumph. That night, Rick told his family he "Just didn't feel handicapped when they were competing." About their race he also explained: " What I mean when I say I feel like I am not handicapped when competing is that I am just like the other athletes, and I think most of the athletes feel the same way. In the beginning nobody would come up to me. However, after a few races some athletes came around and they began to talk to me..." Together the Hoyts don't only compete athletically; they also go on motivational speaking tours, spreading the Hoyt brand of inspiration to all kinds of audiences, sporting and non-sporting, across the country. "The message of Team Hoyt is that everybody should be included in everyday life."
