Ashok and Kishore (Shammi Kapoor and Sanjeev Kumar respectively) are two room-mates, living in a hostel. While Ashok takes to crime and dishonesty, Kishore is honest to a fault. When Kishore finds that his dad (Rajan Mehra) has been taking bribes, he leaves home angrily. Ashok and he disagree on a number of issues, mainly involving honesty, and both agree to meet each other after a period of three years, and see what life has had an effect for them. Kishore gets into bad company inadvertently, and is unable to free himself, and gets deeper and deeper into crime. While Ashok realizes it is not worthwhile to pursue a criminal career, and becomes a police inspector. Kishore is now known as the notorious Baghi Sitara, and Ashok is assigned the task of apprehending him. The two do not know who the other is. Kishore comes to know of this assignment and his men kidnap Ashok, but Ashok manages to escape. Kishore must kill Ashok in order to carry out his nefarious activities. After three years the two have an emotional meeting, delighted to see other. What will be the outcome when they come to know that they each other's mortal enemies? Helen is regarded as an all-time great as a dancer in Hindi films. She also evolved into a character artist, though selectively. She reminisces about her past years. Helen Richardson Khan, better known as Helen, the actress who changed the entire scenario of dance in Hindi cinema from the early 50s to the late 70s to emerge many years later as a character actress in few chosen films. From an item number, then known as a 'cabaret' dancer, Helen raised the standard of sizzling dance numbers performed in nightclubs or as the repentant vamp in many Hindi films. She transformed this dance into an art and gave it a definite and respectable identity because, despite those scintillating gyrations in skimpy costumes, Helen exuded extreme sensuality and sex appeal without appearing either vulgar or obscene. She remained the queen of the cabaret in cinema for two decades. Neither Kareena Kapoor, who duplicated her famous 'Yeh mera dil' in THE DON RETURNS, nor Urmila Matondkar, who did ditto with the 'Mehbooba mehbooba' number in RGV's AAG, could hold a candle to the original Helen numbers in DON and SHOLAY. Today, the hourglass figure has put on pounds and those beautiful eyes are veiled in gold-rimmed spectacles. Helen presents a picture of grace, dignity and humility. In Kolkata for a couple of days in response to an invitation to judge a dance contest, Helen agreed to trace her footsteps back in time, smiling away, at times, happily, and at times, rather shyly when asked about her gutsy and sleazy dance numbers. It is the biggest hit in the history of Bollywood, India's Hindi film industry. Released on August 15, 1975, it starred Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini, Sanjeev Kumar, Jaya Bhaduri and Amjad Khan. The movie, set in the lawless and rugged terrain of central India, is the story of two hired hands, trying to capture a ruthless dacoit by the name of Gabbar Singh. Sholay is the highest grossing film of all time in India. It has earned Rs. 2,36,45,00,000, equivalent to US$ 60 million, after adjusting for inflation. When first released, the film was declared a commercial disaster. Word of mouth convinced movie-goers to give the film a chance and soon it became a box-office phenomenon. It ran for 286 weeks straight (more than five years) in one Mumbai theatre, the Minerva. Sholay racked up a still record 60 golden jubilees across India and doubled its original gross over reruns during the late 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and early 2000s. Sholay was the first film in the history of Indian cinema to celebrate silver jubilee (25 weeks) at over a hundred theatres across India. In 1999, BBC India declared it the "Film of the Millennium"; Indiatimes movies ranks the movie amongst the Top 25 Must See Bollywood Films. In that same year, the judges of the 50th annual Filmfare awards awarded it with a special award called Filmfare Best Film of 50 Years. The director's original choice for Jaidev was different. Shatrughan Sinha was almost signed, when Dharmendra convinced the producers that Amitabh would be the right choice. The producers wanted Danny Denzongpa to play the bandit chief, but he was committed to Feroz Khan's "Dharmatma". Amjad Khan was a second choice. The scene in which Thakur's family is killed was cut by the censor board; the murder of a small child was deemed too horrific to show. The film showcased two real life romances. Amitabh married Jaya Bhaduri, who played the widowed daughter-in-law, in 1973, during the filming. Dharmendra married Hema Malini, his second marriage, in 1980, five years after the release of the film. Amjad Khan prepared to play a bandit chief by reading a book titled Abhishapth Chambal, which told of the exploits of Chambal dacoits. The book was written by Taroon Bhaduri, who happened to be the father of Jaya Bhaduri. The screenwriters, Salim-Javed, named Veeru and Jai after a couple of Salim's college friends. According to some sources Sholay has always been the number one grossing film of all time, in the Indian film industry. The basic plot of the movie was lifted from the 1972 Hindi movie Bindiya Aur Bandook produced by Joginder and Joginder later on filed a lawsuit against Ramesh Sippy. Starring Rajendra Kumar, Waheeda Rehman, Mehmood and Helen. Music is by Shankar Jaikishan..... Sharda [Shraddha Sinha] was a playback singer in Hindi films in the 1960s and 70s. She won the Filmfare best Female Playback Singer award for the cabaret "Baat zara hai aapas ki" in Jahan pyar Miley (1970). Sharda belonged to a conservative Brahmin family from Tamil Nadu and was inclined towards music from childhood. She got her first big break in Bollywood with the song "Titli udi in Suraj" (1966). She was promoted by Shanker of the Shanker-Jaikishen duo. "Titli udi" turned out to be a top chartbuster in 1966. Thereafter she continued singing for Shanker in nearly all his films while he was alive. She sang with most of the top singers like Mohd Rafi, Asha Bhosle, Kishore Kumar, Yesudas, Mukesh and Suman Kalyanpur. She lent her voice to top leading ladies of the time like Vyjayanthimala, Saira Banu, Hema Malini, Sharmila Tagore, Mumtaz, Rajashree and even Helen. She was the first Indian female singer to cut out her own pop album in India sometime in 1968. Adidas Commercial by SPIKE JONZE By jonathanglazer Hello Tomorrow is the title of a 2005 Adidas television advertisement, and also the name of the song used in the commercial. The 90-second spot was created by Oscar-nominated film director Spike Jonze for ad agency TBWA\Chiat\Day to advertise the adidas_1 "intelligent" sneakers. The title song was composed specifically for the advertisement by Jonze's brother, Sam "Squeak E. Clean" Spiegel, and its lyrics were sung by Jonze's then-girlfriend, Karen O of the Grammy-nominated rock band Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
