No obstante, el esfuerzo de esta comunidad ha conseguido que de momento el euskara no se haya apeado del tren de las nuevas tecnologías de la información. De hecho, el desarrollo y uso de todo tipo de aplicaciones es proporcionalmente desmesurado en comparación con la población vascoparlante. La trama de Ubuntu Tribe se situa a caballo entre Redmond (EEUU) y el País Vasco. Un cargo importante de una poderosa corporación informática fija sus ojos en una joven hacker vasca, Izaro, después de que ésta haya descubierto diversas vulnerabilidades graves del sistema operativo Wista. Software privativo. Obnubilado por el buen hacer de la virtuosa desarrolladora, tratará de contratarla a toda costa, para lo que se desplazará al viejo continente. Nada más llegar el corporativo, Billy, comenzará a rondar a la joven, que es totalmente reticente a entrar en el club de Redmond por sus convicciones a favor del software libre, bombardeándola con jugosas ofertas económicas. Sin pretenderlo, comenzará a conocer el entorno en el que se mueve Izaro. Una humilde vida, promocionando sistemas operativos libres en escuelas y hogares de jubilados. La militancia activa y prácticamente altruista de Izaro cautiva a Billy, que rápidamente comienza a enamorarse de ella y a conocer cómo se mueve el mundo vascoparlante del software libre. La estancia del responsable de Wista se alarga más de lo esperado y en la empresa de Redmond empiezan a precuparse. Ubuntu Tribe es una cibercomedia romántica semidocumental, al tiempo que reivindicativa, rodada bajo algunas de las normas establecidas por el decálogo Dogma95. El mediometraje, aún en desarrollo, se distribuirá en la red bajo licencia Creative Commons. Contará con una versión original en euskara y sendas versiones subtituladas en inglés y español. Como hemos dicho, el proyecto está todavía en fase de desarrollo. Y tú puedes ser parte activa del mismo. Their story is captivating by itself but what makes this documentary even more special is these amateur cinema enthusiasts filmed their own history on Super8, as if anticipating their lives might one day be documented in film. They decided to see if they could pick up the frequency and bingo, managed to record the satellite's beeps. While no word from aliens, the brothers have had their share of dramatic and controversial claims, including recordings of the last words/breath of cosmonauts who allegedly died on secret Soviet space missions. They also listened in on the Americans, and the brothers' recollections about the launch of the first US satellite, Explorer, are just delightful: a neighbour complained about the racket they were making. Besides the enchanting home movies, Space Hackers has brilliant footage of the many launches and, of course, the moon landing. These brothers should be as famous as Neil Armstrong, from hear to eternity.
