The American Monk - Lesson 5
By theamericanmonk

Using Your Mind to Heal

Click to Watch Burt's Video Introduction to this Lesson and the Three Techniques He'll be Revealing Here

Aging and bad health are all imaginary figments of a limited belief system. They happen because you expect them to happen. Change this belief and you change your health!

How Old are You Really?

I'm not talking about your numerical age. It doesn't matter if you're twenty or thirty or even seventy. I'm talking about your metaphysical age. I'm asking you, How old do you feel?

Regardless of the life expectancy in any given era, there have been people living well beyond the norm for centuries. Even hundreds of years ago when most died off at fifty and sixty, there were still plenty of people living productive lives at 100 plus.
How is that possible?

How come that people from different backgrounds, different cultures and different lifestyles can manage to live so many years past what science says to expect? What's their secret? And more importantly, how can you and I tap into that fountain of youth?

If you look closely enough, you'll discover there is one common thread among all of them:
They Have a Love of Life.

Rather than focus on those age-related milestones, these centenarians have chosen to simply enjoy the NOW and look forward to the future.

They are immune to the stressors that surround them and choose to live in a relaxed and peaceful state of mind. They expect to live productive and satisfying lives, paying no attention to what birthday they might be on.

And the result is, they live well beyond what science told them was possible.

This expectancy isn't just a hope to live into your eighties or nineties. It's the certainty that you'll be around in another thirty, forty, even sixty years enjoying life. So certain in fact, that you've made plans for that stage of your life—plans that include adventure, education and your continued quest for discovery.
Your Mind and Your Health

Our body is a gift. It's a vehicle that allows us to experience the most out of this life.

In this lesson I'm going to show you how to care for this vehicle, keep it running smoothly and allow it to heal more rapidly from disease and illness.

We'll talk about 3 things—as in my previous lessons. I'll make powerful techniques available to you. You can use these to allow your mind to maintain and heal your body.

The Power of Big Thoughts

Click to Watch Burt's Video Introduction to this Lesson and the Three Techniques He'll be Revealing

The Biggest Mistake Made by Seekers of Spirituality...
I want to get this out right now. Right here. Too many people have this mixed up.

To be spiritual does not mean you need to lead mediocre lives, free of material possessions and content with where you are.

This is a lie. It started with the hippie movement in the 60s when the myth arose that monks and enlightened ones live in caves as hermits in rags. The idea went on to say that to be spiritual, we need to cast away our material possessions and retreat from the world.

Wrong.

To be spiritual is to engage the world. It's to seek to elevate the rest of humanity. Sometimes through knowledge. At other times through power or money.

Yes—I said those words. Power. Money.

These words make a lot of spiritual-seekers cringe.
If it made you cringe -- then you are still far from enlightenment.

Power and money are not bad. They are tools that we can use to make this a better world. * Gandhi used his power to liberate his countrymen. * Bill Gates is using his money to wipe out famine and disease in Africa. * My teacher, Pramahansa Yogananda used his power and money to bring meditation to the West. * Kennedy used his power to put a man on the moon, elevating the limits of what humanity thought to be possible. * Jose Silva, another teacher of mine, used his money to grow his organization, the Silva Method, into a global life-changing powerhouse. He trained over 12 million people to use their minds to shape their reality.

If you think big dreams, power, money, possessions are bad—banish this thought immediately from your mind.

Starting today, and with the techniques I will reveal in this lesson, I want you to focus on thinking big. It's a huge world out there. With many problems to fix.

The world needs strong, powerful people with the desire and means to help correct problems. You need to become one of those people. And in this lesson, I will guide you through three exercises to help you get there.
How the idea of "Limits" Arose

When you were born, you came into this life without limits. "Can't" didn't exist for you yet and the world was literally yours to command. But somewhere along the way, you began to believe that there were in fact, limits to your potential after all.

Somewhere, we got this crazy notion that fate had dealt us a certain hand of cards and what's more, we were destined to simply play themwithout any say about the hand we might be holding.

Now, how did that happen?

It started with the words adults used on you as a kid.

These words may have come from your religious upbringing, "You will only be rich if it is God's Will".

Or from your parents, "C'mon son, you can't be an astronaut. Be more realistic."

Or from your friends, "Dude, only nerds become great scientist. Stick with us, we'll take care of you."

Or from your Teachers, "You want to be a writer? Why? There's no money in that. You know how HARD it is to be a successful writer? Get an engineering degree."

Along the way, we start to give up our great dreams and settle into mediocrity.

And we look at "great" people, world leaders, successful entrepreneurs, best-selling authors and world-changing social activist and we see their achievements as being beyond our reach.

So, how is it that we've developed this sense that someone else might be "better than us"?

Is it because they have more money? More knowledge? More experience? Perhaps we think they're more attractive or more successful or more charismatic. Whatever the reason, that sense of inequality begins to tear at our self-esteem.

Where we were once filled with wonder and excitement, now we're filled with dread and fear. Instead of enjoying the freedom to be exactly who we want to be, we now feel an enormous pressure to simply fit in and be like everyone else.

But the big secret is that it's not money, or intelligence, or inheritance, or luck that makes one successful.

There are successful people with college degrees, and successful people with little education.

There are successful people who were born rich. And there are successful people who started out dead-broke and homeless.

There are successful people in developed countries, but also in poor nations.

There is no single quality that stands out among the wealthy except ONE...

The Successful People in the World Understand and Use the Law of Attraction in their Daily Lives.

The Successful Ones understand that abundance is there for the taking. It is not a win-lose situation—there is enough for everyone. We can all be successful, rich and influential.

Because the greatest secret is your mindset, not your current circumstances that determine success.

The Law of Attraction and You

Click to Watch Burt's Video Introduction to this Lesson and the Three Techniques He'll be Revealing Here

What is your Greatest Desire?

There is a wonderful story about the disciple who went to his guru and asked:

"Guru, I seek enlightenment. How do I get to it?"

The guru explained that enlightenment will come when we desire it, that our reality is created by giving our attention to those things we want the most.

"But I desire it. Why has it not come to me?"

"Because you do not truly desire it" replied the guru.

The wise guru knew that a mere craving or simple want was not enough to turn desires into reality. He knew that he would have to show his disciple the degree of desire necessary to achieve such a manifestation.

In just a second, I'm going to tell you how the guru demonstrated such a deep level of desire and even more importantly, how you can achieve this same level to create the reality you've always wanted.

But first, I want to back up just a bit and share with you a story...
The Story of the Dented Fender

While teaching a class many years ago, some of my students and I left to go out for lunch. As we approached my car, we saw that it had been hit and whoever had done it had driven off without even leaving a note.

The three students looked at me and waited for the blowup.

It's true. When I first saw that dented fender, my mind flew off into all kinds of directions. For a moment I could feel irritation and my body tightening with anger, and I knew immediately I had to redirect that negative mental activity. So I focused on finding a way to change the negative thoughts into positive action.

Jumping into the car I said to the three, "Let's go. There's a body and fender shop just down the street."

"You going to get it fixed right now?" one of the students asked.

"Nope." I answered, "What I'm going to do is to get a price on what it costs to repair the dent, and whatever that price turns out to be, I'm going to create something that I'm not doing right now, and I'm going to make three times the cost of the dent.

We drove to a nearby shop and I was told that the cost of repairing the fender would be $450.00. I immediately tripled the figure and thought, "$1,350, I've got to earn $1,350 with something new."

Now whenever I looked at the dent in my fender I didn't mentally start cursing the person who dented it and ran off. No, not at all. Now when I looked at the dent I thought, "$1,350.00, I've got to earn $1,350.00."

I kept thinking about how I could make that amount of money. It had to be something that I wasn't doing at that time. I thought about it, and finally came up with the answer.

I would create a brand new seminar for my friends. If they liked it I would send out a mailing to all the people who had been through my classes, and would set a goal of making $1,350.00 from it!

And so I put the seminar together and did it free-of-charge for fifteen friends. They loved it. I then sent out a mailing and conducted the new seminar.

Imagine my surprise when I realized that I had made more on that seminar than the new car cost! And all because someone dented my fender.

Buddha Bar IV - Ishtar "Comme Toi"
By dancingwithshadows

This is a cover of French singer Jean-Jacques Goldman. He is telling to his daughter while she is sleeping the story of a young girl that was deported to an extermination camp during WWII in Eastern Europe. Goldman's family was from Germany and Poland, being Jewish they had to leave the country and settled in France.

AS YOU ARE
She had clear eyes and a velvet robe
Besides her mother and the family around her
She stood while she's a little distracted in the soft sunlight at the end of the day
The picture is not so good, but one can see
The happiness itself there and the evening's softness
She loved music, especially Schumann and then Mozart

As you do as you do as you do (x3)

She went to the school from the village below
She learned the books she learned the laws
She sang about frogs and princesses that sleep in the woods
She loved her doll she loved her friends
Especially Ruth and Anna but especially Jeremiah
Maybe they marry one day in Warsaw

As you are as you are as you are
As you are as you are as you are
As you are while I am looking down at you
As you are while sleeping and dreaming of whom?
As you are as you are as you are

(Arabic)
Days passed by in the innocence time
In it was her sole love

Her name was Sarah she was not even eight years old
Her life was soft dreams and white clouds
But other people had decided otherwise

As you are as you are as you are
As you are as you are as you are
As you are while I am looking down at you
As you are while sleeping and dreaming of whom?
As you are as you are as you are

She had your clear eyes and she was your age
She was a little girl without history and very wise
But she was not born like you here and now ...
