These Hearts Are On Fire The Heart shape has become almost traditional in the tiny world of homopolar motors. Here, two unique wire-form hearts show some surprising twists, then unite to become one in the final embrace. There are actually four examples of homopolar motors in this video, including one with the apparatus upside down! The homopolar motor works by the Lorentz principle. Current flowing through the copper wire makes a magnetic field, which interacts with the magnetic field of the neodymium magnet, producing torque on the wire. This homopolar motor video is dedicated to the cool band Wolf Parade, and to "All Hearts on fire everywhere." To appropriate background music, with the blessing of Wolf Parade, "This Heart's On Fire" from "Apologies To The Queen Mary" album. Thanks to my step-son, Hadji, a member of the band. Note: The entire soundtrack was stripped from this video in August 2010 by WMG, (Warner Music Group) three years after the video was put on Youtube. ***Music Update Feb 2011: Folks can switch this video's res setting to 240p from 360p to hear the music. Weird but true! My step-son is in the band, and I used the song with his permission. However, I was told Warner Music has a policy to remove all music worldwide that they believe they have the rights to. Salvemos al mundo Muy interesante video para aprender a cuidar lo poco que nos queda... El planeta está sufriendo un proceso de calentamiento global, debido a la contaminación atmosférica por la emisión de gases procedentes de las industrias. Una gran amenaza para el planeta es el calentamiento global provocado por el efecto invernadero. Nuestro planeta está en proceso acelerado de calentamiento global, debido a la acumulación en la atmósfera de una serie de gases que, procedentes de actividades humanas, retienen el calor que recibimos del sol, actuando como un abrigo o un invernadero. El principal responsable del incremento del efecto invernadero es el CO2 (dióxido de carbono), que se produce fundamentalmente en la quema de combustibles fósiles (carbón, petróleo y gas natural) para obtener energía. La principal fuente de CO2 en España son las centrales térmicas. Por tanto el clima y todo su ecosistema se halla amenazado por las Centrales termicas, que vomitan continuamente CO2 a la atmósfera, mientras como subproducto producen electricidad. De manera que para reducir las emisiones de CO2 (y hay que hacerlo con urgencia, de acuerdo con los científicos del IPCC, si queremos detener el calentamiento global del planeta) no es posible aplicar filtros, ni sirve de gran cosa mejorar el proceso de combustión, ni basta cambiar un combustible fósil por otro. La única solución es quemar menos cantidad de combustibles fósiles, e ir sustituyéndolos por otros no contaminantes. Una de las mayores amenazas que se ciernen sobre nuestro planeta es el cambio climático provocado por el efecto invernadero, que se produce, fundamentalmente, por el incremento de CO2 en la atmósfera. La quema de combustibles fósiles (petróleo, carbón y gas) emite grandes cantidades de CO2. El objetivo de Greenpeace es detener el cambio climático luchando por un cambio en las políticas energéticas en favor del ahorro, la utilización eficiente de la energía y el desarrollo de las energías limpias y renovables.
