[View \| Download]	4 octave wonders Pt. 16 - Jim Gillette (E2-D6) By jowox After 15 four octave wonders it´s now time for the singer who can perhaps best titulate himself one, Jim Gillette from over-the-top 80´s hair metal band Nitro. I´m not particularly fond of his singing and I do think his mid register is too weak but he has a phenomenal range. His high register often uses a pure head voice tone with very little chest mixed in. His low register borders on the growly. On to the notes! 1. The famous 3 octave scale from the youtube video "Jim Gillette hits an insane scream" and insane it is. Many people have tried to emulate it but the only one who comes close is Jon Becker. Jim starts around a very strong G2 and stops at G#5. It is clear that he could extend it far more but since it´s from a vocal instruction video, showing how shifts between low, mid and high register can be smoothend out by rigorous vocal training, jim never goes to his very limit which he has stated in an interview with Jaime Vendera to be C7! 2. A F2 from his solo CD "Proud to be loud", song is "Flash of lightning". 3. The end of the bonus track "Out of time" from his solo CD. A few E2:s and F2:s and a low growl at the end. 4. Another bonus track from the same CD, Dr Monster, and this time also E2:s and possibly even lower but also a bit growly. 5. Time for the high register now! A F5 from the Nitro guitar solo track off the solo CD. 6. A pretty chesty scale from C5 to F5 from solo CD song "Out of time". 7. Another F5 with a short trill to G5 from the black Lita Ford CD, song is "Boilin´point". 8. A classic pure head voice G5 from the Nitro song "Freight Train". 9. A strong G#5 from solo song "Head on". 10. A very processed A5 from solo song "Never say never". Hurricane power! 11. The famous 32 second scream from Nitro song "Machine gun Eddie", a long A5 then a dip to G#5 and then a B5, back to G#5 and then ending on A5!! 12. A long B5 from the solo song "Proud to be loud"! 13. A short C6 from the ending of "Never say never". 14. A more sustained C6 from the Nitro song "Shot heard around the world". 15. The highest recorded note by Jim, a layered D6 from "Freight Train", the other notes are a D5 and a G4. Enjoy the over-the-top notes of Jim Gillette!
