Conservative clerical forces established a theocratic system of government with ultimate political authority vested in a learned religious scholar referred to commonly as the Supreme Leader who, according to the constitution, is accountable only to the Assembly of Experts. Iranian-US relations have been strained since a group of Iranian students seized the US Embassy in Tehran on 4 November 1979 and held it until 20 January 1981. During 1980-88, Iran fought a bloody, indecisive war with Iraq that eventually expanded into the Persian Gulf and led to clashes between US Navy and Iranian military forces between 1987 and 1988. Following the election of the reformist Hojjat ol-Eslam Mohammad KHATAMI as president in 1997 and similarly a reformist Majles (parliament) in 2000, a campaign to foster political reform in response to popular dissatisfaction was initiated. The movement floundered as conservative politicians prevented reform measures from being enacted, increased repressive measures, and made electoral gains against reformers. Starting with nationwide municipal elections in 2003 and continuing through Majles elections in 2004, conservatives reestablished control over Iran's elected government institutions, which culminated with the August 2005 inauguration of an ultra-conservative layman as president. "The mission of every Iranian is development of every part of Iran in the best possible form," said Ahmadinejad in an address to people of Marvdasht. President Ahmadinejad said that Iranians will collectively make endeavors for development of Iran in a way to ensure national self-sufficiency in the fields of agriculture and industry. "We will all join hands to build Iran in a way that different agricultural and industrial products are produced by our capable nation," announced the president. Addressing the world powers, Ahmadinejad said, "O! The world powers, the Iranian nation has stood united and firm, relying on God. They will not backdown even an iota from their international rights." He said more than 25 years of sanctions against Iranian nation have been futile. "That's for 25 years that some bullying powers have sanctioned our nation but thanks to God Almighty, you conquered the peaks of science, technology and progress one after another day by day." He praised Iranian nation's remarkable technological success, saying, "These successes are all a few instances of the victories. Today, our youth and scientists conquered peaks of technology one after another and emerge successful in the most complex scenes of science despite the bullying powers' sanctions and economic embargo." He warned the bullying powers against defeat in the face of nations. "I advise you on behalf of people: O! Bullying powers, your power -- no matter how much it is -- would not be superior to that of God and of nations, which is a reflection of the Almighty's strength. Failure of tyranny and false is definite. It would be to your benefit to turn to nations and officially recognize their rights, have close ties with them and avoid confronting them. The Iranian nation resisted for years with bare hands, while all the bullying powers were against it. Divine promise came true and you nation emerged triumphant," concluded the president. Everyone I i show this picture to says it looks like me. I did some research as there is a Fars logo on the picture, Fars is an Iranian news agency. I requested the article written with this picture take by Hossein Fatemi but there has been no reply yet. So I went to some sites that had this picture posted thought the language is in Farsi so i had to find a translator but that didn't work well. The only heading that came out well enough was a Sisters mobilization ceremony. I am not sure how old this picture is or who this person is. So I ask for help on any information that can be given as this sister of Islam looks like my sister in blood.
