By YoBroMan Van Halen's Mean Street Tapping Intro - The Lesson!!: This video will provide you with complete step by step instructions on how to play the Mean Street Tapping Intro. Eddie uses awkward rhythms with weird, slurred note groupings that sound great when he plays it, but are virutually impossible for someone else to learn. It's difficult! But, don't get discouraged. As long as you get the concepts, understand the note, tapping and harmonic groupings, you'll be way ahead of most everyone else. The tone is important, you can't soak your tone in reverb/delay/chorus and use a solid state amp. It just doesn't sound right. I'm using my old 100watt, JCM800 Marshall head with a single 4 speaker celestion cabinet. The head has old GE 6550s for the power tubes, a double slap back Boss delay (Eddie uses a single slap back delay) and a 500ms reverb (Microverb and my best guess). It's cheap stuff but it's the tube amp that gives me the sound. Getting the harmonics to come out is difficult, I can get them on this guitar but not on my Les Paul. Go figure. I actually shot this video in high def, 1920x1080i, and it looks unbelievable. But, to get this on YouTube in one video I had to go to 340x280 and keep it under 10 mins and 100MB. This is the best quality I could get it. So, it's grainy, but it'll do. ;-) I hope you have fun with this. Yo! Eddie Van Halen tapping lesson By shredguybstring Tapping time! The second One-on-one Masterclass lesson! This time we will look at tapping à la Eddie Van Halen/Randy Rhoads/Kirk Hammett. Tapping has to be one of the most popular techniques on the electric guitar - and why wouldn't it be? It's easy to play fast, easy to improvise with, looks very difficult - not to mention it sounds terrifyingly cool! If you feel your technique isn't evolving as fast as you would like it to, you must give tapping shot. I have taught my beginner students this specific pattern - and they have come back after a week playing it perfectly. They also usually wonder why I have been telling them that mastering the guitar is a life long dedication - they learned to play fast over a week with tapping, didn't they?! So the three step method of the lesson should hopefully get any beginner started with this flashy technique. Enough said, tapping is a versatile technique and it can be devloppped into extremely complexe high-tech patterns (Jennifer Batten, Steve Lynch etc.). In this lesson we will also look at a further elaboration of the standard tapping technique which allows the intermediate/advanced guitarist to create further evariations and improvisations.
