The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine by Dr. Ilan Pappe - Part 2

http://www.ilanpappe.org The present dismal reality unfolding in the Middle East has clear historical roots and a journey into the past may help to illuminate what lies behind the destructive policies of Israel in both Palestine and Lebanon. Zionism arrived in Palestine in the late 19th as a colonialist movement motivated by national impulses. The colonisation of Palestine fitted well the interests and policies of the British Empire on the eve of the First World War. With the backing of Britain, the colonisation project expanded, and became a solid presence on the land after the war and with the establishment of the British mandate in Palestine (which lasted between 1918 and 1948). While this consolidation took place, the indigenous society underwent, like other societies in the rest of the Arab world, a steady process of establishing a national identity. But with one difference. While the rest of the Arab world was shaping its political identity through the struggle against European colonialism, in Palestine nationalism meant asserting your collective identity against both an exploitative British colonialism and expansionist Zionism. Thus, the conflict with Zionism was an additional burden. The pro-Zionist policy of the British mandate there naturally strained the relationship between Britain and the local Palestinian society. This climaxed in a revolt in 1936 against both London and the expanding Zionist colonisation project. At the end of November 1947, the UN offered to divide Palestine into two states almost equal in their territorial space. The Jews were only one third of the population by 1947 and most of them had arrived in Palestine only a few years earlier. The categorical Palestinian refusal to go along with this deal, backed by the Arab League, allowed the Zionist leadership to plan carefully the next step. Between February 1947 and March 1948, a final plan for ethnic cleansing was prepared. The Zionist leadership defined 80 percent of Palestine (Israel today without the West Bank) as the space for the future state. This was an area in which one million Palestinians lived next to 600,000 Jews. The idea was to uproot as many Palestinians as possible. From March 1948 until the end of that year the plan was implemented despite the attempt by some Arab states to oppose it, which failed. Some 750,000 Palestinians were expelled, 531 villages were destroyed and 11 urban neighbourhoods demolished. Half of Palestine's population was uprooted and half of its villages destroyed. The state of Israel was established in over 80 percent of Palestine, turning Palestinian villages into Jewish settlements and recreation parks, but allowing a small number of Palestinian to remain citizens in it. The June 1967 war allowed Israel to take the remaining 20 percent of Palestine. This seizure defeated in a way the ethnic ideology of the Zionist movement. Israel encompassed 100 percent of Palestine, but the state incorporated a large number of Palestinians, the people who Zionists made such an effort to expel in 1948. The fact that Israel was let off easily in 1948, and not condemned for the ethnic cleansing it committed, encouraged it to ethnically cleanse a further 300,000 Palestinians from the West Bank and the Gaza strip.

It was originally sung by Mukesh in the 1960 Hindi film "Yehudi". The pictures used are from the Indian woman actresses Ashwarya Rai and Madhuri Dixit. ===================================================== Lyrics (taken from original CD booklet): "You distance yourself From your heart But I hold mine proud You might accept or deny The power of feeling But the world knows its strength This may be my madness Or the way of love You are blind to resist The love this craving heart holds for you Even if you never come, I will wait Then, one solitary day Breathe no more If you call me then I will never return." ===================================================== Also found on internet: Ye Meraa Diivaanaapan Hai ... This is my madness Dil Se Tujhako Bedilii Hai, Mujhako Hai Dil Kaa Guruur You are disheartened by your heart, but it is my heart's pride Tuu Ye Maane Ke Na Maane, Log Maane.Nge Zuruur Whether you accept it or not, people absolutely will.. Ye Meraa Diivaanaapan Hai, Yaa Muhabbat Kaa Suruur You can call it my madness, or the delight of love Tuu Na Pahachaane To Hai Ye, Terii Nazaro.N Kaa Qusuur If you can't recognize / realize this, blame it on your eyesight Ye Meraa Diivaanaapan Hai... This is my madness Dil Ko Terii Hii Tamannaa, Dil Ko Hai Tujhase Hii Pyaar My heart only wishes / longs for you, and my heart is loving only you Chaahe Tuu Aae Na Aae, Ham Kare.Nge I.Ntazaar Whether you come or not, I will be waiting for you Ye Meraa Diivaanaapan Hai ... Aise Viiraane Me.N Ik Din, Ghut Ke Mar Jaae.Nge Ham With such desolation / solitude, I will suffocate and die one day, Jitanaa Jii Chaahe Pukaaro, Phir Nahii.N Aae.Nge Ham How much you would call out to me then, I would never return again.. ===================================================== Susheela Raman's first solo album "Salt rain" was an outstanding debut that won the BBC Best Newcomer Award 2002. She was also shortlisted for the UK Mercury Prize, - Britain's foremost reward to new artists with distinct creative ability -, thus becoming the first world music artist to figure for this prestigious award. "Salt Rain" is by far one of the best fusion albums you can get. The tracks are sung in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Sanskrit As an artist, Susheela Raman continues to develop and explore issues of identity with new sounds that celebrate multiplicity. She draws her collaborators from across Europe, Asia, and Africa: Cameroonian bassist Hilaire Penda, Guinea-Bissau born percussionist Djanuno Dabo, American drummer Marque Gilmore, British-Asian tabla player Aref Durvesh, and of course British guitarist and producer Sam Mills are at the heart of this album as they were on "Salt Rain". Susheela: "We were lucky to collaborate with some unique musicians who live mostly in London and Paris but are of diverse origins: Guinea Bissau, Cameroun, India, Romania, France, Greece, Egypt, Kenya, America, and Spain. Any record is a meeting of many minds and, now more than ever, it is networks of people, not just individuals, that spark new and exciting work. Everyone brought their own special energy to the music and I am very proud of what we all worked together to create." Musicians: Susheela Raman (Voice) Sam Mills (Producer, Guitar, Drones) Aref Durvesh (Tabla, Dholak and Tabla Tarang) Djanuno Dabo (Bongos, Congas, Claypot, Shakers, Backing Vocals) Tony Allen (Drums) Hilaire Penda (Bass) Vincent Segal (Cello and Cello arrangements) Manos Achalinotopoulos (Clarinet, Kaval flute) Albert Kuvezin (Bass) Dorantes (Piano, Handclaps with Tete & Pedro Pena) Tom Diakite (Kora) Bobby Jocky (Bass) Produced by Sam Mills. Gordang Sambilan Dengan Adegan Kesurupan

· Sepasang simbal kecil. Penggunaan gordang sambilan dalam upacara adat disertai peragaaan benda-benda kebesaran adat seperti : · Bendera adat yang dinamakan tonggol. · Payung kebesaran dinamakan payung raranagan.
