New Lian Li T1 "Spider" Discovery - David Attentionbagger By FirstZoom Lian Li Chassis are rare and endangered, and very valuable indeed. None more so than this flirtatious creature captured on film for the first time-- in its unnatural habitat. The Lian Li Pitstop spider which brings aluminium (aluminum for Yanks) to life, except for the few threads of spider webbing (which look a bit like nylon puppet strings, but are in fact strands of web spun from out its sphincter). The Lian Li T1 Pitstop is a chassis designed for a few users, but all of them are nitromanics who delve into the depths of BIOS's and extract every ounce of power from them. Meet the Cubs! By Columbuszoomedia These 3 lion cubs were born on September 22. They are the first litter for mother Asali and father Tomo and the first born at the Columbus Zoo in 24 years. The pairing of Asali and Tomo was recommended by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Species Survival Plan (SSP) for African lions. The AZA, of which the Columbus Zoo is an accredited member, strives to maintain a sustainable population of lions in North America. Currently there are 349 African lions in 98 institutions in North America. Of those 349 animals only 176 are pedigreed meaning lions with known ancestry. The Columbus Zoo lions are one of only 31 pairs of pedigreed lions recommended for breeding by the SSP to maintain genetic diversity. Once common in Africa, lions recently became a global issue when scientific evidence revealed that lion populations had plummeted by a staggering 50% over the past two decades. Lions are threatened by human population growth and agricultural expansionwhich leads to increasing levels of conflict between people and lions. Through its Conservation Fund, the Columbus Zoo is supporting the work of Shivani Bhalla, a Kenyan Ph.D. student at the University of Oxford. Shivani and her team fit radio-collars on lions in northern Kenya to gather behavioral information critical to formulating a conservation plan. The goal is to encourage a more harmonious co-existence between wildlife and people by reducing the loss of livestock caused by lion attacks and reducing the number of lions killed in the conflicts. Asali and her cubs will be provided access to the outdoor habitat daily weather permitting. What time they will go out each day and how long they will stay out will depend upon the weather and the animals. (Note: the Zoo is closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.) Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is 363 days of the year 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. after Labor Day. General admission is $12 for adults, $7 for children ages 2 to 9 and seniors 60+. Children under 2 and Columbus Zoo members are free. The Zoo was named the #1 Zoo in America by USA Travel Guide and is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA.) Giant Panda mating a success at The San Diego Zoo By SDZoo The San Diego Zoo's female giant panda Bai Yun surprised the Zoo's Giant Panda Conservation Team by demonstrating she was ready for breeding a couple of days earlier than anticipated. The male Gao Gao and Bai Yun were allowed to mate naturally. The panda team watches for key behaviors and hormonal shifts to indicate the female is in estrus. Timing must be perfect as a female giant panda is only in estrus for two or three days a year, limiting the opportunity for conception. This giant panda pair has produced two offspring including Mei Sheng in 2003 and Su Lin in 2005. Bai Yun gave birth to her first cub in 1999 through artificial insemination. Giant pandas are critically endangered with only 1,600 left in the world.
