Brimstone and Treacle part 1 By scaryflakybiscuits Brimstone and Treacle see my playlists to view as whole Classic Play for Today made in 1976, written by Dennis Potter. The BBC banned brimstone and Treacle for 11 years due to its shocking and controversial story. Michael Kitchen plays a demon who roams the world ingratiating himself into the lives of random strangers to cause whatever mischief he can. When he finds himself in the home of a middle aged couple and their daughter Pattie who was left severely mentally handicapped after a car accident he seems very keen to stick around. He pretends to have once been in love with Pattie and offers to stay with the couple in order to help look after her. However his real intention is extremely disturbing. Brimstone and Treacle is both a morality play and a black comedy which subverts the idea that saviours are always good. Needless to say this doesn't go down too well with devout Christians.
