Ishq e Laila - Iqbal Bano sings Ik Halki Halki Aahat Hay (Audio) By lovehumanity Yesterday I uploaded a song from Film Murad featuring all three viz. Iqbal Bano(singer), Qateel Shifai(lyricist) & Safdar Hussain(music director). Today am presenting same trio again. This time for movie Ishq-e-Laila. The movie is not rare and easily available in market as well as here on you tube but i am uploading it for 2 reasons..One, this song was obscured by Iqbal Bano's more famous song from this movie "Pareshan Raat Saari Hay Sitaro Tum to So Jao" and secondly am uploading it in audio cuz in general i have observed that people get distracted by the video and dont pay attention to lyrics of the song which are not only filmy but also literary in this song as Qateel Shifai was perhaps the only poet of Pakistan who penned so much in films and will be remembered as the one whose film songs were equally popular as were his non-film ghazals..Just look at one verse from this song for example.. Kuchh kehti hui wo unki nazar, bijli bhi nahi, shola bhi nahi.. is par bhi magar dil ko hum nay seenay mein sulagta paaya hay.. splendid work. Talat Mahmood sings a song of Rafi - with Rare Talat Photos By lovehumanity Chal uR ja ray Panchhi was sung by Rafi Sahab for Film Bhabhi. A few days ago someone said to me that great singers never sing cover versions of other singers so i shudnt upload version songs. It was then i looked for version songs sung by Big singers and i was surprised to note big guns there viz. I uploaded Ghulam Ali's Version yesterday and today am presenting a rare version song sung by none other than the first Ghazal King of Indo-Pak Talat Mahmood and the original song of Film Bhabhi was sung by another Alltime Great Singer Muhammad Rafi :) Leme quote you a brief history of this rare recording in the words of Khalid Mahmood (Son of Talat Mahmood and a good singer himself) He narrates, "During 50's HMV wanted to copy the West (where one hit English song was sung by many singers) and create VERSION RECORDINGS of popular Hindi songs. Since Talat Mahmood was the most popular singer in those days they persuaded him to do the first recording 'Chal ud ja re panchi' which Mohd Rafi had sung for film 'BHABHI'. Similarly, HMV wanted Rafi to sing a Mukesh hit and Hemant Kumar to record a Talat hit. But this idea of singing other singers songs was not going down very well with the singers and they got together to finally decide against going ahead with this VERSION RECORDINGS idea of HMV. Seeing the singers opposition, HMV decided to drop this idea of VERSION RECORDINGS entirely after that. But by this time 'Chal ud ja re panchi' sung by Talat was already in the market, releasing as 'Version Recording FT21027 Twin/Black Label 78 RPM'. That is how one can hear the 'BHABHI' film song "Chal udja re panchi" in the voices of both singers - Mohd Rafi (from the film) and Talat Mahmood (from the version recorded by HMV) !!!" I dun have much time for net else i wanna comment on the importance and various purposes of cover versions. May be on my next cover song upload I'll be able to say something about it. Here's Part 1 of an instrumental tribute presented on Sitaar by Nafees Khan sahab on the Death Anniversary of Madam Noor Jehan..as being told by the host Sultan Arshad sahab. I wud like to say a bit about Sultan Arshad sahab. Sultan sahab is counted in those very few tv hosts, comperes and research persons who prefer to silently work in back ground..without making much noise :) He is not only a cine-critic of Pak cinema but also had a tremendous knowledge of India as well as pre-partition music. His services for music promotion are widespread on various tv channels and he has a major role in grooming young musical talent of the country. And above all he possesses a decent, polite n sober personality : a proud friend to have. Enjoy the glimpse from the tribute he arranged for us on this 8th Death Anniversary of Noor Jehan. Also worth-mention is the great control of Nafees Sahab on Sitar as you'll notice too. John. Sunny Benjamin John, who is popularly known as S.B. John, was born in 1934. He spend most of his life in Karachi, Pakistan. Accompanied with his wife and two sons namely Robin and Glenn John, S.B. John used to sing gospel on Christmas Eve, on Pakistani television. Prominent singers like S.B. John who perform it best could still be heard joyously stretching and bending notes, breaking syllables and bouncing phrases back and forth. S.B. John started singing on Radio Pakistan Karachi as an 'A' category artist. Side by side he also made his presence felt in various functions and stage shows held in Karachi. S.B. John also sang Janab Rana Akbar Aabadi Sahab's ghazal, 'Uray hoash us dar pay janay say pehlay.' Sohail Rana composed this ghazal at EMI Pakistan. Around 1973, S.B. John introduced his son, Robin John, to Sohail Rana and said that he wishes to get his son a keyboard. Since young Robin remembered all his father's songs. Robin was seven or eight years of age at the time. Fifteen years later, S.B. John again brought Robin to Sohail Rana. By that time Robin had grown up as a talented singer. Hence, Sohail Rana utilized Robin's singing talents in Pakistani television shows, and also in private songs and the film recordings. Additionally, Robin also toured UAE, Turkey and USA with Sohail Rana and participated in the musical programs. Nowadays, Robin lives in USA. Hopefully, his parents will join him soon. While recording the ghazal below S.B. John might have envisioned music sweeping Pakistan: 'Kal chaudween ki raat thee, shab bhar raha churcha tera,' Poet, Ibne Insha. Kal chaudween ki raat thee, shab bhar raha churcha tera, kuchh nay kaha ye chand hai, kuchh nay kaha chehra tera kal chaudween ki raat thee hum bhee waheen maujood thay, hum say bhee sub pucha kiye hum chup rahay, hum hans diye manzoor tha parda tera kal chaudween ki raat thee S.B. John's music mastery marked the undisputed triumph of the formula, exemplified best—surprise! S.B. John achieved lofty heights through ghazals like the one below: 'teri baatain he sunanay Aaye,dost bhi dil hi dukhanay aaye' Poet, Ahmed Faraz. Presumably, it never occurred to S.B. John that his name will become synonymous with the song below. In my minds eye, I conjure the recording of that song as vividly as I was there: 'Tu jo naheen hai to kuchh bhee naheen hai, ye mana keh mehfil jawan hai haseen,' the 1959 film 'Savera,' Music composer, Master Manzoor Hussain, lyrics, Fayyaz Hashmi, pictured on Kamal, Shamim Ara- Kamal played the lead. Forty-seven-years down the line, this song is as much in demand as if it were recorded yesterday. Alas! To this day, no one could come up with the explanation as to what is so special about this song. But we don't need a logical explanation. Some things should remain mysterious. Naag Mani - (Best of Mehdi Hassan Series) Mera Iman Muhabbat By lovehumanity A song that suits my nick :) Well, throughout his life the Lyricist cum Poet Habib Jalib used to raise voice on public issues, social injustice and tyranny of rulers as well as exploiters of human rights. Whether it was Ayub Khan's era inwhich he wrote the most popular poem of the era (Main Nahi Maanta) or it was Benazir's Rule, Jalib was always a voice of common man.. never compromising on non-equilibrium. In current song, he is not telling his own belief but also suggesting us what an idealogy of love really mean. Its about strong faith, deep love and hope for a brighter day to come in reign of darkness. What else you can better expect from a song of 2 stanza in few minutes? and about Mehdi Hassan..yes it was tailor-made for him..none stopping to dominate. Lastly, it wud be sin not to praise Nisar Bazmi for a composition sweeter than honey. Did i aggavate something today? If yes, then plz watch the song thrice.
